At last, my horrible modern Ford will be going (well in 8 months anyway)so i will be on the hunt for a new daily. Question is, what do you think i should go for ? Only slight problem is that i will be using the car for work, as well as to actually get to and from work, but im office based so its not like it will ever be full of tools etc. My dream would be a nice little mk1 Escort (xflow, pinto, zetec, whatever really) but i nearly equally like mk2 Escorts. Im also quite fond of a Capri (1, 2 or 3 in any version apart from a V4), 105e or 100e. I know they're not really for this forum but im also quite partial to all things Cosworth related, although prefer RWD I did also think about an E30 M3 but any that i can find in my price bracket seem to be a bit rough so then i thought about an E36 M3 or something similar. Thing is, i really like OSF's though so the BMW idea will probbaly cheese me off sooner than i think, especially come the show seasons ! All must be 2 door though. Sorry, 4 doors just arent my thing I'll probably have about £8k ish to spend. What do you think ?

There is an open petition to get the government to bring back the 25 year year road tax exemption. Not sure it will work but it must be worth a try. Follow this link http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/save-old-cars/ You will then receive a confirmation email and your vote is only counted when you click the link supplied in the email. ONLY OPEN UNTIL 24TH OCTOBER 2009

Went to this at the weekend and it was just awesome Managed to get a few pics and couple of videos but not too many action shots im afraid Despite a strong amount of 4wd / WRC cars there, it was an Escort 1 & 2
-
Suppose it would depend if you used an Escort ID or sent it through a thingy test like kit cars have. Mind you, if you did go down the new build route, you could end up with a '59 reg mk1 Escort perhaps.....
-
That's dissapointing
-
Apologies if you've already had a thread about this but ive not been on here for a week or two and couldnt see anything obvious in the first couple or so pages. Anyway, what's the crack with these GRP mk1 escort shells that you can now get for not much more than £1500 ! Ok so the purists may turn their nose up but would it not be good to turn up with one at somewhere like Retromotorsport, talk to Gary nicely and hey presto, you've got yourself a rolling space framed brand new mk1 escort with no rust

that sucks even more.. I think there are people out there who would rather die with the car then have it wrecked at the garage after all the hard work that we put in these machines! Better safe than sorry and all that. Another mate of mine stuffed his car yonks and yonks ago and we ended up leaving it at the bottom of the ditch thinking it was out of sight so wouldnt come to any harm. Needless to say, a few hours later when we came back with a friendly farmer and his tractor we found that all the good / salvageable stuff had been whipped away by thieving scumbags Cant see that sort of thing happening in Mull though tbh but better safe than sorry Was unbelievably cold though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah the white one did exactly the same only a few minutes earlier. Callum Duffy (local legend in a very nice blue mk2 with montecarlo arches and a BDA) very very nearly did the same just before the white one. On the plus side, its definately a good place to watch , although that rally has done nothing good for the price of 2 door shells

oww just saw the vid! that was quite an impact.. at least ur ok! Good un init Cant remember if the gear indicator thing said 5th or 6th but it was definately not driving miss daisy ! It wasnt me driving though, it was my mate. I got the lovely task of staying with the car on the side of the hill until the complete stage had finished, the sun had gone in and darkness had fell all around. Only then could we collect the car and drag it back through the town
-
Yeah it did but it wasnt half a funny shaped cage when we took it out of the car. Seat sub frames were a right mess too. If you look on You Tube under Orange Escort Crash or something, the video of it is on there. Scary really just how cream crackered the car ended up after what was quite a quick (time) accident really

Too bloody right !

So ive finally managed to get my photobucket thing working and found this picture that was taken a few years back. Id spent weeks of nights and loads of weekends with my mate to bodge together his unarched mk2 into an arched mk2 with 2.3 Duratec in time for the Tunnocks Tour of Mull rally. With only a few niggling bits needing attention we headed off to Mull to do the rally and although the car was, in my view, far from perfect, it didnt half look (and sound ) the part and he was doing some decent stage times too. So anyway, of all the places for me to go and watch he decides to have a bit of an off right infront of me and ends up parked about 5 metres away from me and his wife. No one was hurt but the car was wrecked . Only thing that we could use again was the engine . Oh and there's now a passenger side rear alloy arch as a good spare, should we ever need it again (highly likely !) Cant wait to go to Mull this year for a look, although my mate isnt doing it this time as he's just made a bit of a mess of the new car at Pendragon Stages at the weekend. Anyone spot a theme here.......? Best bit is, he wont let me drive the bloody thing because i might prang it !

Went on Sunday for a look and saw loads of proper Escorts doing the business plus this in the car park
-
ooo yeah i did mine half red, half blue on the front and back of my sadly missed mk2 XR2. Them were the days. While in a nostalgic moment, i also remeber the times when you could always tell if it was a police car that was following you at night because round our way, they'd all drive Maestro's and they had a unique, not very bright dipped beam. i'll get me coat
-
I'll measure mine tonight and let you know soon as but have limited tinterweb access at weekends so might get to Monday morning
-
Not me im afraid but didnt realise you were only in Skipton. For some reason i just assumed you were down south with everybody else
-
Has it got a bloody great bonet bulge thing ? If so, im 99% sure this'll be the one that i used to see (even quite recently) knocking around Preston in Lancashire. V8's in Cortina's arent really my thing but this looked like it was built for 1/4 miling and to be fair, it sounded the absolute nuts
-
What happens is we all meet up in the hotel car park have a natter and a look at each others cars, take photo's etc. there is normally 50 to 80 cars at our normal meets. The big one i hold in March of each year had 225 cars there Look at this link of the last meet which to be fair was smaller than normal due to the date clash with the Pickering RS show and the rain! http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=101920 This should give you some idea mate Ok cheers ! With a bit of luck i might see you there then. Unfortunatley not in a proper car though but i'll be sure to park the modern piece of crap away in a corner
-
Ask a stupid question but is a "meet" when you all meet up in say a pub car park or field or summat and just have the crack cos everyone know's everyone or is it something different ??? Jeeeesus that makes me sound proper thick but its just that i live about 2 hours away so just want to know what it actually is / is like and if it would be worth the trip (weather depending of course) I'll await your barrage of ridiculing....

Are you totaly narked with your project? Ready to give up?
