Miller replied to Miller's topic in READERS RIDES (PAST & PRESENT) PICTURES, BROCHURES & ARCHIVES
Thanks for the nice comments guys, im dead chuffed with it always put a smile on my face Yeah it was on ebay and typically at the other end of the country (yorkshire) but im glad I made the trip. I just hope I can afford to hang on to it when I move out later this year but just incase Im getting as much fun as I can out of it now . -
best I could come up with when i was looking for a new one for my mk2 was £80 and that was for an escort with a servo (pipes exit on different side on non servo ones). In the end I just replaced the seals on mine Cost about £15. Someone said camberly motor factors still do them but I never got round to asking for a quote from them, might be worth a shot.

My old estate:
-
Thanks for the replies . Well, I cut the rest of the casing off and attacked it with a chisel afterwork and got the bloody thing off. The threaded bit where it goes into the block came out with it but ive screwed that back in complete with a fresh filter. Heres the remains of the old one. Well Im glad thats sorted, can go out for that drive this weekend

Woke up this morning full of cheer. The sun was shining and I was looking forward to a day of razzing about in the escort and generally just relaxing. So anyway I decides to take ten minutes to change the oil before I go out (cos it hasn't been doen since I got the car). So after draining the engine I go to spin off the spin on filter....... it turns out it had other ideas and wanted to stay put. I have just come in after 4hours of fighting with the thing and Ive admitted defeat, this is what it looks like now. The rest of the filter: Assorted things I have broken in the process of trying to get it off (filter wrench, socket wrench, long nose plier thingys, a file that I punched through the filter and to add insult to injury the bonnet cable pull) Not been the best day I cant belive how bloody tight its on there. Can anyone suggest what I should try next, and has anyone else ever had a similar struggle with one? Cant believe ive been defeated by a sodding oil filter

lol same here only worry is I may be picking a car up from the north on sunday and dont want to run out of petrol on the way home because all the stations have ran out. I suppose I should get some break down cover aranged

awch !! get a popular or summing then buy a V5 (or not if thats illegal ) hell, a very good popular went on ebay last week for nearly 5 grand, which was kind of depressing. Was offered a sport last month for £3500 with long MOT in good nick but it had group 4 arches fitted otherwise I would have had it!

id pay about 4 grand for a good original genuine one

I think estate and van wings are slightly narrower at the top as well and where they join the scuttle its totally different, curved instead of angled sharply like on the saloons.

Hi Tony, I thought its about time you showed up on here -
Dont count on it, I have two Mk2s and one set of keys as one key will operate everything on the two cars. If I was you I'd invest in a crooklock and use that instead, mine cost about £20.

My Mk2 Escort 4 Door
Miller replied to Miller's topic in READERS RIDES (PAST & PRESENT) PICTURES, BROCHURES & ARCHIVES
Thank you for the comments guys. To celebrate it passing its MOT on Wednesday I have fitted the Ghia door cards which are much nicer and also wired up the revcounter thanks to the wonderful guide on seoc: http://seoc.co.uk/revcounter.htm I have also scored a new set of body side trims and ghia bumpers from the guy who used to own it a few years back. He rallies them and was planning to cut it up when he had it for spares until it was saved by the guy I brought it off. Said escort Ghia is awaiting the same fate (although this one is nasty). I dont know whether to fit the Ghia bumpers and trims or leave it looking like it is, but as they were cheap I couldn't refuse. ALso, I should have the centre console tomorrow (along with 1600 Crossflow for the estate ) so il give it a wash and get some proper pics as all the ones on the first post are a bit crap. Cheers, Miller -
Thought it was time I put up a thread about my daily drive, my midnight blue 4 door Mk2 1300 L. When I brought it last summer, I payed £450 for it as I had always liked old escorts (I have loads of old issues of classic ford which I must have brought when I was about 12) and due to the impromptue expiration of my VW Polo I was in desperate need for the 600 mile round trip to leeds festival the following week. It was a bit of a shed to be honest, but at the price I couldn't complain and however scruffy it was it was mechanically perfect and with several months MOT and Test and a ton of spares I figured I couldn't loose, even If by MOT time it had to be cut up and sold in parts. So i trundled about in it taking me up and down the country and in spare time learning the art of RWD on skinny tyres and crap Devonshire back roads (great fun as it turns out, and somewhat addictive) until its MOT expired, it was the moment of truth. Now, anyone who's driven an old Escort (at least from this site) will agree that its easy for them to get under your skin, and despite the fact it needed £400 of welding I knew I couldn't chuck it away - so out came the welding torch on it and after a week in the garage it was ready for another year on the road. After spending that amount of money on it there was no turning back so I treated it to a cosmetic tidy up and some Mk1 RS2000 wheels with brand new Kumho tyres on (a snip at £120). It looked tidy enough and I ran it round like this until June this year. I took iit to my mate to replace a wing and weld up a leak but on further inspection the entire front end was pretty rough. At this point it was either scrap it or do it properly, and after looking over the rest of the car and finding that to be solid we decided to proceed and bring it back from the brink once again. The pile of parts including 2 front wings, front panel, wing rails and splash guards found there way onto the car and after a few weeks it was back and better than ever. As it is now: I changed to round lights and brought a halogen conversion kit to make night driving easier. Future plans include to tidy up that engine bay, fit some half decent seats (maybe Capri),fit the ghia door cards Ive got kicking about and a centre console to basically make the interior a nicer place to be. I also need to fit a stereo. In the long run it needs more cosmetic attention and a full respray but as its my daily im not to fussed about that at the moment. So there it is, cheap to run and great fun and its not let me down once in the 10,000 or so miles Ive done in it this year. I love it

That video was done ages ago when the MK5 would have just have been an old car that no one wanted at the time. Id be more annoyed at the Mk4 Cortina that gets trashed in Travis' "Walking in the Sun" video which was only a few years ago and looked like a good one. And dont forget that Mk1 Escort 2 door that gets crashed and blown up in Limp Bizkit's video for "Boiler"

Ok, be honest now - How many of you have...
Miller replied to SmokeEm's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
you'd be suprised the amount of times people do that! I used to work in a petrol station and people were always try to fill their rent a van transits with petrol. Managed to save a few by not releasing the pump but half the time they dont realise before they go to drive off and chew the diesel pump up on the way out. Ive never driven anything thats not petrol so Ive never had that problem, although in my new job Im going to be driving vans so im wondering how long it will be until i try it myself. -
Aye thats what I ended up doing in the end becuase the selaed beams were crap (but then so were the square ones), you still need the round lamp backing bowls though as that silver trim ring clamps the lamps in place. That way you also get around the side light problem where on some lamps there is no window for one to shine through. *edit* just read that properly: my halogen kit didn't come with backing bowls but if you can get them with then yes you would be able to do without.
