i agree with the others, it should be done with the car on the ground and all bolts loose. then tighten them all up. its then down to the front end, so prob worn springs/ or one broken.

32-34mpg on a motorway run, including some duel carriage and city driving. normal around town driving, im not sure but its certainly less than 20mpg! engine is a supercharged 2.0L pinto, in a capri.

About Bloomin' Time!!!
Supercharged Nat replied to Jimbob-Squarepants ©'s topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
proper little car! looks sweet! nice one on getting it done. -
pre cat cars- or our older cars have to be within 4.5% co i think. modern cars are much lower! my 2.0l used to be bearly over 1%! as alreay said, the mixture screw down under the throttle linkage, on the corner of the base of the carb. it should only be upto a maximum of 2 turns out of the carb from fully (but lightly) seated. try turning it in half a turn and see if she smells any less.

how big is it? you could try an engine builders type place, or a machine shop. they should be able to have a go at welding the cast iron (make sure they actually do cast iron welding though, not just prepared to have a stabb at it!). there specialist people about but im not sure where or how much! welding cast iron is difficult but can be done well.

im thinking about living and working in australia, but i have no work experience in my field (mechanical engineering) as ive only just gotten my degree. ive looked into it abit and it seems i need more points/ credits to move out there (by getting in experience) i did register with a company that helps people move out there, but they now want 150 quid to even tell me if they can help! i dont have that money to find out il have to wait for a couple of years. there must be a way of doing it so i can get out there now? has anyone else done this or looked into doing it? any thoughts or info greatfully received! thanks.

Somewhere to go to let things blow over?

Hi, there was an article in retro ford mag a few months ago. it was about 800 to dip the shell, boot lid, bonnet and doors. (cant remember if that included vat or not tho). if your doing an immaculate rebuild/ retore then its gota be worth it, as every single bit of rust is taken out, leaving a completely bare shell. then you can weld up and dodgy bits and be safe in the knowledge that you have completely rust proofed the chassis rails and nooks etc. but obviously if youve just got a couple of patches you wanna do then its not worth it, as everything has to come off the car, all running gear and every nut bolt, piece of trim and glass etc.

why does it always happen tot he cars that stand out, ie our osf's? why couldnt it be the nextdoor neighbours shitty kia or something?

looks like a capri 2.0l strut. top mount looks aftermarket.

i dont think youl need to replace the fuel pressure regulator. itl be a case of playing with the metering unit. it may be even a case of just plonking in the cam and the injection side of things taking care of its self?
-
if its been skimmed a few times then that will raise compression ratio, meaning pinking is more likely. try filling up with shell vpower or something else high octane, bp ultimate. see if that stops the pinking. the only other way to do it is to retard the ignition timing a couple of degrees (which should only be done with the use of a timing light). you could try turning the mixture screw on the carb a 1/4 of a turn out. if the idle is slow after the timing adjustment, youl have to screw in the speed screw a tiny bit to bring it back up.

heres mine from the weekend. lots of capris and great people! http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c275/Nat-Capri/

supercharged 2.0L pinto used pretty much everyday. sometimes needs the odd fiddle with the mixture screws/ speed screw. the only thing thats gone wrong for ages is the bloody exhaust, its hanging on by a thread, happen yesterday on the way to COCC. cept for that, its all good.

just spotted this thread, im in North Walsham, not far from Norwich, count me in, assuming dates times arent a prob, but yeah put me down.

Supercharged Nat replied to X-pack-Glyn's topic in CHIT CHAT
glad to here you got them trained up well! i guess il have to do the same with my nephew! -
im guna sound like your old man but, make sure you do well now an until you start the course you want. i know at your age your not much interested in school and grades, i wasnt, but if i knew what i know now, i would have been! engineering is very mathematics based, so get good with your sums, i guess in motorsport engineering you could end up working with stress's and strains (mechanically within components) and theres some nasty equations in the middle of it all. maths has never been my strong point ive hated it my life and then i ended up doing a 3 year course thats full of it! so i kinda wish i had payed more attention to the maths side of things. to get onto courses like engineering, you just need to study relevant subjects. most unis will want a certain number of C's at A Level (or what ever the equvialent will be when you get there) and it wont hurt if there relevant to the subject you want to study) Most importantly, just enjoy your time while your at school and college/ uni as you only get to do it once! dont worry about all the stuff i said till your a little older though ok?

Beng hons in mechanical and manufacturing engineering, some really interesting stuff, some really sh!t, boring stuff. but im done now, had my final exam of my final year on monday! woooooo hooooo!
