  1. result as i had the head off a pinto today and realised that the standard pistons already sit in the head at least a mil, so that would probably bring the CR to about 8.0:1 which means my skimmed head will be going on to bring it up a tad 2.8 pistons are 93mm i think
  2. if they sit about 1.8m down from the deck face then im looking at a CR of 8.5:1 please tell me the good news lol
  3. if i put 2.8 cologne pistons in a 2.1 pinto and DIDNT deck it, how far down would the piston sit at TDC? im trying to work out the CR on a calculator i found and i need to know the dish size in CC of the piston so basically how much of the bore is left in CC's? how will i work this out? even just roughly would be nice thanks, i know everything else i need. EDIT: Sorry i have worked that bit out its 0 lol theyre flat, i need the Piston - Deck clearance in mm with a 2.8 piston. (how much shorter the piston is)
  4. ive got a big valve head thats ported and polished and fast road cam, will this work ok with a turbo? how do you work out the CR of a 2091cc engine with 2.8 pistons and a unskimmed head? im rebuilding a 205 block bottom end to put it on now anyway, new rings, shells, bore it to 2091cc to take the 2.8 pistons, no im not intending to make it stupid, unless 200bhp+ is stupid? its either 2.8 pistons or oversized cossie pistons which wont be cheap
  5. Anyone on here fancy making me a exhaust manifold then? ive seen them on ebay but theyre almost £400! T3 Flange also needing a 5ierra EFI system and a fook off intercooler. and i heard something about a 200zx or 200sx one bieng the same fit? can anyone shed some light? Oh yeh and the other thing is, i have a 2.1 NON-205 block. that has oversized pistons, i know that 2.8 pistons will fit straight in and also have a slightly lower compression hieght that standard, which is what i need as its quite high comp at the mo. but would the height difference of these pistons be enough to lower the compression enough?
  6. Everything you said (without the lightening an balancing) will give a VERY noticeable difference, you will lose a little bit of low down torque with the fast road cam but when you get past 3000-3500 rpm and hold your foot down until its screaming its tits off, then you will see what there intentions were this was basically what my 2.1 pinto consisted of, apart from oversized pistons+rings, shortend rods and decked block. none of it was lightened or balanced and it was a completely standard LEADED head with a FR1 cam and 421. it put a smile on my face at 7000rpm put it that way
  7. Not too sure which of these to go for now... ive seen a few vids on youtube of a capri with a holset turbo and it goes like fook! from wht ive seen the vids of the cossie v6 capri's dont look all that fast? im more interested in how the car gets to the speed rather than the top speed itself plus i already have a mildly tuned 2.1 pinto. i know its not just a matter of bolting on a turbo but its not just a matter of bolting in a cossie v6 either? whats your opinions? ta
  8. my bad, i was under the impression that MK1's were rwd, Must just be cavaliers?
  9. i downloaded that calculator it recons that if i had a MT75 BOX, (i inputed the ratios) and a 2.0 axle, on 205/50/16's i would be doing 5000 rpm at 150mph in 5th lmfao
  10. mk1 astra GTE, small, nippy, RWD fun
  11. 4.4? i bet you can pull away in 3rd lol. well i know its not an escort, but my capri was running on the standard 2.0 laser diff (3.44) with 5 speed type 9 and even with a mildly tuned 2.1 pinto, 185/70/13's imo was way to tall. would do 120 in 4th easy and 5th would kill it. thinking of using this diff with the 2.9 cossie, or even a 3.77 1600 diff. but then i dont know if the MT75 box ratios are similar
  12. oh yeah and how much is a pair of princess 4 pot calipers worth these days? found a pair of the beautys on this 2.8i, but im getin caprisport kit

  14. how many people have told me to put a bag of cement or sand in the boot ive lost count, if i wanted to do that, i wouldnt have stripped the interior out!!! maybe some people like the back floating around some people just cant handle the back end can they?
  15. i recently had some Bloke in SETyres telling me that the laser wheels on my capri are RS alloys and they shouldnt be on my capri, theyre for an escort, mine should have 205/60's i sed no thats 2.8s mate this is a laser, he wouldnt hav it!
  16. well ive just started cutting some rust out of a 2.8i i got to do a cosworth conversion on, already its starting to look like beaksters project, the strut is rotten, inner wings rotten almost up to the bulkhead, its gona take longer than i 1st thought!!!!
  17. lmao nicely put. i can assure you this is true, i let one of my chav mates have a go in my capri, he didnt have a clue what hit him when he thought hed try to get the arse out
  18. Lucky B*strd! mine had a full 157k miles on the old nackerd standard 2.0, had 3 engines since, 4th waiting to go in nother suprise is how much welding i have to do on it!
  19. id say you dont ever need more than 400bhp in any osf, but then again ive never been in one thats had 400bhp so i wouldnt know! ive been in a mk3 capri that had a 3.1 swaymar race engine revving upto 9.5k rpm on a 4spd bullet box, over 100mph in 2nd, 140 in 3rd, and never tested top speed, dont know the numbers of it, but let me tell you it was quick, because of the spec, she wouldnt pull away very well, either very slowly or very smokey, but once you was upto about 60 she would overtake almost anything! including Sierra Cosworths, scoobies etc. at a guess i would say that was about 300bhp
  20. They hadnt...as the question was for N/A engines Apologies, my mistake, i missed a vital part of the subject... they do do non turbo versions of these engines though...
  21. has anyone mention the nissan RB engines???? RB20DET = 2.0 DOHC 24v Turbo injection straight 6 (214bhp) RB25DET = 2.5 DOHC 24v Turbo injection straight 6 (250bhp) RB26DETT = 2.6 DOHC 24v Twin Turbo straight 6 (277bhp) these engine dont come cheap tho and i imagine you would also need the gearbox and a LOT of modification to get it to actually sit in the hole and turn the back wheels... apparently RB26DETT engines can easily make 400-600bhp and with extreme internal mods can make 1340bhp!!!!!
  22. I'm not going to argue that the Pinto isn't the most expensive one to get that figure out of, but it's not down to the crank grinding. That's not an expensive part of the process at all. Agree with vista... The biggest expense is the Head really and at that sort of power you also need accralite or similar pistons too. After that, its the 48's at around £800 + linkage etc. Im not saying your wrong, your probably right, i was just going by what it says in classic ford mag about it
  23. Ok, i take it you have read this months classic ford? join the 200bhp club article? tells you how to get 200bhp+ out of a pinto, Vauxhall XE redtop, N/a YB cossie, ZetecE (with duratec label on top lol), Duratec HE, and if u fancy spending an amazingly stupid £20000, a 2.2 xflow!!! but apart from that, about the dearest one is the pinto at about £3500 due to the crank grinding needed to get it to 2.2 and the headwork needed. a 2.0 redtop XE looks like one of the best options, and these are quite bulletproof engines, ive seen a lot of these running atleast 200bhp and raced regularly with no problems atall. im trying to persuade my mate to throw one in his 05 plate 1.4 sxi corsa lol
