  1. Here she is in the snow - Had a good look round her over the week end, and the more I look the more I realise she was a good buy. Somebody has spent a lot of time and or money on a re wire. She has not one but 3 fuse boards, Durite ones. A stainless exhaust, a 3 piece prop and coil helpers for the front springs! I think they are helpers, cos she's still got the leaf springs, I will get some pics tomorrow. There are extra bits of strengthening all over the truck, like on the cab floor, and a tube strut like an underbonnet stiffening bar instead of the front crossmember. It's a shame they did so little with the outside. I had an amber beacon fitted and sprayed the wheels silver. Oh and it turns out it's a cologne, complete with leccy ignition which is just as well cos the dizzy is stuffed right under the fierwall and checking points would be impossible!

    Snow

Ehem, back to the topic ! There was loads here this morning, all gone now!
  3. You must be above the banger boy's limit by now!
  4. Get a good night's sleep, get up and have a fresh look at em. It's worth all the grief in the end. The last time I was out in passenger seat in the Mk1 transit I counted 6 people smiling, one thumbs up and a wave! The next time I took her for her test (passed) but on the way home there was a nasty burning smell and it turned out the wiper motor was burning out. Swings and roundabouts mate, it will get better again soon.
  5. Well that's the last thing the owner of the Mk1 escort wants. I think I know where the insurance are going on this one. A car with no MOT is worth less than one with an MOT, it's no reason not to pay out at all though.
  6. WTF is going on with the bottom of that listing? Is it only me that needs a screen the size of an Imax cinema to read the stuff at the bottom?
  7. NO idea! Only driven her a short distance as yet, I will let you know next week!
  8. EH???
  9. my missus is the same mate My other half would prob leave me if I came home with an new car!!
  10. Really really sorry to hear this. It made me panic and ring my mate that's looking after our granny, made him swear it was safe!! castration with a rusty hacksaw for the fookers springs to mind....
  11. Seen it before, all very true!
  12. Unreliable? Expensive? What modern car can be fixed by the side of the road with some wire, cable ties or whatever you have to hand, can burst into flames in the morning or one month (Mk1 transit, Mk2 transit) and pass the MOT in the afternoon or appear on Ant and Dec three months later (Mk1 and Mk2 transit)? Also, two words, classic insurance...... The worst thing is hearing 'why don't you buy a new van?' from a mechanic or parts shop, the best thing is answering ' I wouldn't be here then would I?'
  13. It's still possible to get the rad for a pinto transit, but I don't know if it would fit in a car.
  14. I don't think stickers would fool anybody, and could look like you are trying to hide the different numbers. I would sand blast them out if I were you.
  15. Was playing with the recovery, sorry. Anyway the paint is soooo embarrassing.
  16. Thanks for the nice comments people. Next thing is taking the Mk2 door mirrors off (they can be used elsewhere) and fitting door mirrors, and an amber beacon (that's why I was inspecting the wiring!)
  17. A ton sounds about right, go up to the £150 if you have to. Any T&T?
  18. Is it a V8 ?
  19. secretly, oh yessss.......
  20. Thanks harry, it had to be said for various reasons. At the very least, does he want to get to 17 and be a father?
  21. My only advise is, if you are gonna sleep around, don't forget your condoms ......
  22. I could be wrong, but I think I know the bloke with the hi cube.
  23. Well sadly the V6 won't be staying! As she's tax exempt she's also LEZ exempt, so it would be almost rude not to fit a diesel. Anyway the V5 still says heavy oil. Fitted some black and silver plates, removed some of the none original stickers, replaced the steering wheel with an original Mk1 transit and re fitted a tow hook/ball as it was missing when we bought her. Somebody at some stage has done a complete re wire, with not one but 3 fuse boards, all top stuff with nice cable finishing and blade fuses, so no worries about a wiring fire! Shame the outside is so shit, but at least that can be fixed.
  24. We use Asda oil too, had no probs. On some of our smokier engines it's a waste to put more expensive oil in.
  25. Celly is getting very hard to buy. Strictly speaking it's illegal now, but it can be bought if you have registered as a classic restorer, and you have to give an appropriate (classic car) reg number when you buy it.
