It may be different on a mk2.. not sure... but can you not earth them to the front panel behind the grill next to the headlight?? That way if the earth i ever crap its easy to check... thats where my headlights are earthed on the mk1... and you cant see any wires??? just a thought

I was waiting for the smart arse with this answer Most of the time I do buy new ones... but i Have buckets and buckets and buckets of bolts/ nuts/ washers that would cost hundreds to buy new.... so i was just wondering what the best way to clean them up and if it was possible

The problem is there is a group of people who believe everything should be kept as it was when it was produced... same engines, wheels etc etc BUT they got to understand that its his car and he can do what he likes with it. If that was my car I would be fooking proud as he has obviously put in alot of work!! I think it looks the nuts... Why people can't just get it into their heads that not every car has to be the same is crazy... if every escort/ capri wotever was the same what would be the point???? Fooking bollox... gets right on my tits!!!

Wots the best way to clean up a large amount of rusty bolts/ nuts all at once??? Can't really be arsed to clean them all one at a time... Is there anything you can chuck them in to make them sparkly an new??? Something cheap preferably... (like coke of degreasing ) Cheers

in the boot with a firewall of some description would be fine without a box sam but if its in the passenger compartment i would imagine it will need to be in a box i beleive that at shakey they scrutineer along those lines anyway Yeah sorry you need a firewall in there (i assumed u would have one in there anyway BUT as Twinkle says... if its going inside u need a box...

It doesn't need to be in a box mate.... Can put it in one if you can to make it look pretty... My Escort doesnt have the battery in a boot.. and thats an MSA approved rally car... so i dont see why you would need one on the road..

The problem you will have is that MK1's didnt really have the same sort of livery's that MK2s had... its was before the designs and advertisig mattered alot on these cars... so they are not that much different from standard colours with a few stickers stuck on them... When you think of MK2's u get things like the Rothmans Escort, Cossack Rally Escort, Ari Vatenan's Black Escort... A few 'modern' ones with white bases:

Go for a Rocket Box mate... got one in mine and they as strong as anything.. especially seeing as you can wack come straight cut gears in there and get that beautiful wineing sound as well!!!

I got into them through the rally scene as well, my uncle used to rally a MK1, then a MK2 and my auntie had a mk1 fez... I can remember the noise and the smell of the mk1 from an early age.. and jus seeing it being thrown around was immense... He had two photos of it in his living room I remember which just always made me want to get one, get out there and tear it up!!!...
