right, i've sent a message to my mate Tom who bought the compressor from me a couple of weeks ago but hasn't collected it yet, to see it I can use it for the Cortina. If he says I can use it, how much do I need as i'll be using cellulose. I know 2K is better but i've not got any space to work in as it is, let alone proper breathing equipment. Is it 2.5litres of cellulose paint mixed with 2.5 litres of thinners? Would this be enough or 2 or 3 coats?

the thing about the compressor is that even though i've sold it it's still here and I can use it until it's collected, i'm doing it in my just wider than single garage. Using cans for the primer was bad enough with the fumes and overspray, so i'd have thought that the spray from a compressor will be much worse. If I had loads of space to work in i'd definitely use the compressor, but i'll be a bit too cramped.

do you mean flat the primer to 1200grit first?

i'm about to start spraying mine soon with cans. I know it's not as good as a compressor, but I sold my compressor to buy some wheels. It's going to be white so no need for seperate laquer. Is this about right? Flatten the primer with 800grit wet and dry with water. Wipe with degreaser cloths when dry. First coat of paint Second coat of paint. Flatten with 1200grit wet and dry and water. What then, rubbing compound? Are the grades of sandpaper OK, and should I be using water with it? Are there any stages i've missed, like between the paint coats?

meh, i am normally polite, just the reason for pullin me over was daft and threat of an over the top charge/fine pissed me off You're right to stand your ground, but it's been known for the police to then do a detailed search of the car for any defects and then throw the book at them to get their own back. I'm sure most of our daily drivers have slight defects which we are "just about to repair" like bulbs, no water in the windscreen reservoir, slightly lower than legal tread on an odd tyre etc.

I work in a shop too and it all sounds very fimiliar. "What's the best price you can do for cash?" is the most common one, but we don't do cash deals. I ask them if they say that at Tesco, or petrol station, or at the pub. Why do they think they can do it in my shop then? Label swapping is another favourite. It can be done as our shop prices are all handwritten on labels from a price book, but we recognise a £350 item coming along with a £30 label on it. They should at least make it close.

I was speaking about this to a mate at the weekend who knows about the Mini run. They have loads of Mini clubs all going on the same day, not just the one, and have traders stands there aswell like food vans, t shirts, graphics, number plates etc who pay for a pitch which helps towards the costs, and each car or attendant pays aswell. This way it can be done but with only one car club it would be nearly impossible.

I've got a mk2 Fiesta as a daily driver. I might get an OSF sticker for it and take a picture as I know it will wind some people up. It's not OSF according to the rules of this site, but it is retro, and a future classic.

i've had that on my mk2 Fiesta daily driver recently. I was only going 4.5 miles to work in the morning, then back again in the evening. it was just warming up as I was parking. I now drive the long way round to work (about 8 miles now), and changed the oil filler cap as that looked like the seal was a bit worn, now it's as good as new. I did have to take off the rocker cover to clean inside that too though. If you are not losing any water from the expansion tank, and have no noticable steam from the exhaust i'd say it's just condensation and needs a few more longer drives.
