atomic punk Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Sunday night I have a whisky & coke or 2 inside me time for a debate.... Is the Cortina Mk5 genuinely classic or still too moidern? Would a Mk4 grill be an improvement or would it just look silly?
orionmojo Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 it carries the cortina baddge.... althoug i'd say more retro than old skool- like the orion
over_head_cam Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Deffo a classic. Not everyones cup of rosie, but I was brought up on them so I have a soft spot (like the rear suspension ) for them.
atomic punk Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 Deffo a classic. Lol its certainly a world apart from the Escort in terms of handling althoug i'd say more retro than old skool- like the orion From the rear with a squint the Orion quite looks like a Cortina lol
orionmojo Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 oh definatly but you've only really got to do the same with the escort to get your answer, mk1to mk5.
mk2_boy Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 maybe cool with retro appeal but def not classic at all yet!
Admin Vista Posted October 2, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 2, 2006 I'm not that well informed on the differences between the mk4 & 5 Tina myself, anyone care to enlighten me? As to is it a classic, I guess tjat depends who you ask. The flat cap and pipe MG brigade don't recognise my mk1 RS as a classic so what chance has a mk5 tina got of widespread recognition? I guess internally in classic Ford circles the answer is yes, but externally not yet.
cyrix Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 no, Not in a million years, Same as the Mk3 Capri, Not enough chrome. All my (Insignificant) Opinion
Guest v6dale Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 mk5 tinas are deffo not a classic yet, nor is the mk4. mk3 tina just scrapes in mk1 and 2 scrotes are classics as are all capris. oh, and the mk1 granny
Mr.Sumo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 From the rear with a squint the Orion quite looks like a Cortina lol if you trim the rear light surround from an Orion they fit the mk5 Cortina...just thought i would give you that useless bit of info Oh , not classic , but still Old Skool for sure
atomic punk Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 That it's oldskool is never in doubt..... its RWD So the general feeling is: It ain't classic in the 'beard cardigan, pipe & slippers' world and prob never will be Its retro, a car of its time and will be classic in time like the mk1 Fester, & people have a soft spot for them It'll become a legend in Banger racing like the Austin Cambridge & Rover P4
RedexRob Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Classic well that depends on how you apply the term , we never saw many on the racetrack (not banger track) as it had American floppy style suspension but it certainly was the eighties repmobile and everyone will remember them for that , don,t forget when I started my Mk 2 fixation in the late eighties Mk2 were considered a bit naff but now people just love seeing them again , time and not seeing all the rusty ones about will be the key here I think...
Guest V6MAT Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Deffo a classic. Not everyones cup of rosie, but I was brought up on them so I have a soft spot (like the rear suspension ) for them. obviously you havent been in our car lol
Pinto J Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Deffo a classic. Not everyones cup of rosie, but I was brought up on them so I have a soft spot (like the rear suspension ) for them. obviously you havent been in our car lol Best thing you can ever buy for a Mk3/4/5 tina - polyurethane bushes throughout - completely alters the beast As to the classic question, i think they do warrent the title - for me a classic is a car of an age that you can look back on it with rose tinted glasses and remember youthful experiences and fond memories of watching and riding in them, and for me and many the cortina is right up there. its a quantity that shifts with passing days (and lets face it, there are probably very few of us who remember being popped of to school in the back of mums 100E Pop ) and so we need to keep an open mind.... lets just hope we're all old bones before the spectre of " Mk4 Focus - classic ? " appears on the board
kms Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 As much as I love our 'tina to bits - I don't think it's a classic yet - deffo Retro - but having said that there are only four years difference between our tina and mk2 escort but the escort will always be classic in my eyes! It all boils down to personal opinion I think - I'll just stick to the term 'Old Skool Ford' - we all know where we going with that one.
