Some advice needed...

I am going to buy a new car (OSF of course) the only trouble is is that it's around 750 miles away. We have agreed a price and delivery is now not a problem but he wants to wait until i send him a cheque and when it clears he will send the car on a transporter.

 

Now, the guy is a top bloke and i trust him as much as you can trust someone you met for 30 mins and have exchanged emails with and i'm sure he'll understand but can anyone suggest another, alternative way of safelly doing the deal?????

 

Cant wait until i get it though, but unfortunatly it means the black beaut will have to go. and i cant express how much that's gonna hurt man.

I sold many cars over the year mate, and run my own transporter for a couple of years, went all over collecting and delivering, If I sold a car, I would'nt even get it ready for loading until a 20% deposit and the transportation fee was paid and cleared into my account, so I think fair enough on his end for wanting the cash, but i think as long as you pay a deposit and the fees for the tansport that is a fair deal, you are both sort of covered then.

Only way to be sure is to go yourself mate. It may seem a long way (Scotland I take it?) but flights up there aren't much nowadays with easyjet / ryan air.

 

When you get there you've got the chance to see if the car is really what he says (photo's can hide an awful lot) armed with new info you previously didn't have you can possibly negotiate a little further then either drive it back down (if it's road legal) or catch a ride in the transporter it's coming on. You've paid for the transporter after all.

 

What I wouldn't do is pay up for a vehicle that's completely unseen.

Can you not arange for some sort of cash on collection?

You pay an agreed amount i.e. half and when the car arrives you pay the transport firm the rest.

I did go and see the car a few weeks back but i must admit, i am a little worried because i didnt get to spend hardly any time with the car really. It looked good and without going over it with a fine tooth comb i have to take my chances. I guess the best option is to send a deposit. That way there is a element of trust to both parties??

Quick rack with spherical bearing track rod ends.

Sachs grp4 height adjustable shocks on rear. 240lbs springs, shocks valved to suit.

5 linked rear with custom Panhard Rod mount.

Twin Cam anti roll bar, triple mounted and modified with spherical bearing drop link set up.

 

Braking;

315mm x 32mm AP Racing discs on front with custom alloy mounting bells.

Very large Brembo 4 pot callipers (badged as Porsche) with Mintex pads.

Sierra Cosworth front discs on rear with smaller Brembo 4 pot callipers (badged as Porsche) with Mintex pads.

Bias pedal box with dash adjuster and custom throttle pedal.

Hydraulic handbrake.

 

Wheels and tyres;

Grp4 Compomotive MO 8x16 et0 on front finished in satin black

Grp4 Compomotive FR 8x16 et27 on rear finished in satin black

Dunlop DO1J 205/50.16 tyres front and rear.

Note. 16” wheels used due to front brake size. 15” wheels will require a 305mm disc or smaller.

 

Bodyshell;

2 door tax exempt RHD shell in Ermine white with satin black bonnet and internals.

Welded in fabricated CDS cage, tied into shell and linking all four suspension mounting points.

Fibre glass bonnet, bootlid, front wings and bubble arches.

Heated front screen with Perspex side windows.

 

Miscellaneous;

Motordrive seats with 3” TRS harnesses

Plumbed in Extinguisher with release mounted on scuttle.

Battery cut off mounted on scuttle

Racetech gauges with Elliot revcounter.

 

I'm not buying it with the engine though, my n/a cossie is going in instead.

Finally i can hit the track!!!!

Spec looks good mate though I'd be nervous too if I hadn't spent long looking over the car. Was there any particular reason you didn't spend longer?

Yeah, i took the girlfriend to Scotland for a holiday/break and ......oh while we are here honey lets go and look at that car!!!

So she was standing there all huffy and the train back to Edinburgh (where we wee staying) from Dundee (where the car was) was leving soon and it was an 1 1/2 hr journey!! So just looking at the car put me on egg shells mate!!!

 

Still, the guy threw some serious cash at it and what little time i spent on it looked good. It's not too 'pretty' if ya know what i mean, built to go not to show.
