MK II Mark Posted April 27, 2007 Author Report Posted April 27, 2007 good luck mate, but whats wrong with the good old X-Flo I think the saying goes, there ain't no replacement for displacement I just fancied a change to be honest mate and i got the new motor for nowt, rebuilt it with a few mods, FR 32 cam, ported and polished head, bike carbs etc... can't wait for the morning... I'm like a six year old on christmas eve
BaileyMex Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 Fair enuf bud, you cant knock the torque from a good pinto (but your miss the chainsaw like revving from the X-Flo )
MK II Mark Posted April 27, 2007 Author Report Posted April 27, 2007 have you got all the bits ready? Hopefully... Single piece prop. Type nine box with quick shift. WCXM and mounts. Bigger rad and hoses. And the engine of course, I can't think of anything else but I think your going to tell me I need something that I haven't got
BaileyMex Posted April 27, 2007 Report Posted April 27, 2007 dont you need a different / longer clutch cable ?

tonymk2wagon Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 hope it goes in well mate. started my pinto swap on tuesday. all goin well with no hurdles to over come. welding gearbox cross member mounts is harsh laying under the car. . . i got burnt to shit. feels real good to see a pinto sat in the hole now though . dont forget a longer throttle cable, my cross flow one will never reach. good luck
bomber1 Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 ally sump or fbh to sort out ur steel one. oh u dont have to have a ally bellhousing
MK II Mark Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 Well Boys and Girls, It didn't go that well, we got the old engine and box out in a hour and a half and I thought we were flying, however after we got the new engine in and brought the box up to see were we needed to beat the tunnel up, we marked it all up and proceeded to knock it all back. At this point it went a little wrong, my mate put his hammer through the tunnel, ok we can weld it up later I thought, we then tried to take the box cross member mounts off but then we made another big fooking hole After I picked up the hammer from the other side of the workshop and had a cup of tea, I got on the phone and ordered a large tunnel. We then got on with the task of installing the larger radiator, we cut out the small rad cowling and test fitted the bigger rad, the bigger rad sat proud of the slam panel by an inch as there was a lip on the bottom of the front panel which it sat on After I picked up the hammer from the other side of the workshop and a cup of tea we decided to call it a day and will continue when the large gearbox tunnel arrives and we get some gas for the mig The big rad is from a MK5 cortina and as far as I was aware the slot pretty much straight in unless anyone knows different No pix I'm afraid but will get some when the tunnel arrives Old Fords, you gotta love em cos their never straight forward
Mrp Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 sorry to hear that mate some times doing it cheap works out dear!! RS ally bellhouse is much easier than a new tunnel !! The first one me and my mate did had a beaten tunnel its just not nice. Look on the bright side you will have lots of room to play with now!! good luck bud

Tom Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 prob too late now but, if you put the engine and gearbox in as one you don't need to do anything to the tunnel mate
MK II Mark Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 prob too late now but, if you put the engine and gearbox in as one you don't need to do anything to the tunnel mate How so, it looked pretty tight
emu Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 As tom said, engine and box in together and the bellhousing will fit in a standard tunnel, It miht need a little bit of adjusting but not huge amounts, I levered my tunnel witha tyre lever to get the space. Regarding your radiator.....Rather than cutting out the bottom of the front panel, just space the bottom of the radiator out towards the engine an inch so the rad sits at an angle. Then the rad can be dropped down to the right height.
