FlashCadillac Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 so... we're talking carbs now therefore you are talking to a complete novice twin 40s on a 1300 Xflow? yes/no? i need a new carb and was looking for a twin choke webber but saw some twin 40s how much should they cost? and how easy to re jet?

Jay_harrier Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 it depends on what state of tune your engine is, if it was a balls out rally spec lump then 40's for sure, standard lump then the downdraft is probably best. I ran a group A Irmscher 1300 Nova in the early 90's on twin 40's, 102 brake at the wheels & would still do 30mpg, I used it daily without any hassles so it can be done unless you have lead boots.

ever88 Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 I hope I'm not teaching to suck eggs but it's fuel to air ratio that matters not big carbs. Adding more fuel to a stock engine that doesn't breathe anymore air would simply flood it. twin 40's are a carb method to fuel each cylinder individually and provide enough fuel for a race engine that takes in a lot of air because they are built to rev high. a single 40 is an intermediate step. a twin choke is a moderate street mod. some mild 1600 xflows use these like the mex and XR2. so a twin choke on a stock 1300 would be more than ample. they are probably the cheapest mod to go for also. hope this helps
