J_mk1 Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I was just thinking... ive never actualy seen one for sale! Just how rare are they and how much are they worth? just curious
Admin Vista Posted May 7, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 7, 2007 Quite rare, and a lot. I'd not be surprised by an asking price of £10000 or more for a built up one that's high spec and ready to go.
Twinkle Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 didnt think they were that rare, i got 2 in the shed

Haha id be mad to pay 10k for an rs1600i (as retro cool as they are) but im sure you could find a doggy rs1600 for around the £10 mark not sayin it would be easy though...
Admin Vista Posted May 7, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 7, 2007 £10k is indeed the approximate value put on a rough RS1600. I wouldn't necessarily expect to be able to use the engine that came in it without a rebuild though. And a rebuild on one of them will cost a pretty penny in parts.
V8ian Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 BDAs vary imensly in price, Recently I saw one for sale in bits for £1600, probably totally shagged, then again there is this one that just sold. 1600cc Cosworth BDA (BDD) Formula Atlantic engine. Just rebuilt by Stuart Rolt. Built from a Cosworth kit (pump, pulleys, rods etc). Ultimate spec. AX block, 3 bolt head, 48 DCOEs, electronic ignition etc. Unused since coming off Stuart's test bed, even has a brand new clutch. Engine is in Belgium, but I'm frequently in Nottingham so can easily arrange delivery to South East & Midlands in the UK, or most parts of Northern Europe. £8500. But the spec on that is probably extreme, In reality you can quite easily buy a useable BDA for 3k+suitable for a rebuild, but if you think lotii are expensive to rebuild, price the bits up for a BD series I would think a4k would buy a good useable BDA if you look in the right places.
antz Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 i would love a bda no matter how much they cost, unreliable they are or whatever! id love one in my escort......hmmm i can dream
Admin Vista Posted May 7, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 7, 2007 i would love a bda no matter how much they cost, unreliable they are or whatever! id love one in my escort......hmmm i can dream Why, other than looks. If you want to keep it old skool you can get close to the same power output out of a pinto on less than half the money. If you're not worried about old skool, then get at least as much power from a cossie turbo or any other good modern engine again on half the budget of a high spec BDA rebuild. No sirreee not for me. I too love the look (and sound) of a BD but the only reason for me to go to all the expense and hassle that they bring, would be if I owned an RS1600 or similar BD series equipped escort that had had said plant from new.
