Hilux Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 do i need 2 front seats to be officially road legal? or can i get away with just 1? someone said something to me at the weekend that suggested i need 2 to be fully compliant. the reason that i am not going to chance it is because i am an HGV driver and rely on my clean licence for my job, the look and the noise of the car will undoubtedly attract attention and the last thing i want is for PC plod to pull me and start dishing out penalty notices for this, that and the other. any MOT guys out there? p.s before anyone suggests ben, i have already pm'd him and am just awaiting a reply, in the mean time, can anyone help???

Gareth Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I know that for an MOT if there's no seat belts then u dont need the seats. A m8 of mine pulled the rear seats outta his motor and was told if there's no belts, then it'll be seen as a 2 seater. Hasn't Marty run only 1 seat in his anglia before now Puddy's 'Tina has only 1 too. Dunno if that'll help ya m8
Guest M.Bird DOHC Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 yes and ive had an MOT with one seat and it was fine! Cant even think of a good reason to have two? If your worried mick fit two- when you get to the pod rip it out!
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 When I took my van to be MOT'd I only had one seat in. The guy said that was fine. It passed. When he was going though the details on the computer he asked how many seats it had, and I said 'One at the moment but I'm fitting the other soon', and he said 'That's fine. I just need to know how many it has at the moment.'
KJ 1320 Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 just asked my m8 in the m.o.t garage and he said its fine as long as there is no seat belts fitted for the seats that have been removed
V8ian Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 Plenty of vehicals have only one seat fitted, mostly delivery vans, Ice cream vans, Taxis, my son, a MOT tester says No seat fitted so no requirment for it, the only requirment for belts is is age related, there are cut off dates for for newer cars, and if there is no seat fitted there is no need for a belt. I would think race cars that need a MOT to race they dont have full interiors. Ian
Twinkle Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 mine only runs with one seat except on special occasions
