Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 I am getting some "De Ja Vue" here on this last page. I think I have read these post's before somewhere Can I just say this? I am 27 years old (too old) even at this age, I don't mind admitting, I feel very awkward talking to new people I have never met before. I secretly dreadded my first OSF meet which was one of the Ace meets around August I think, so much so, I bought 2 friends along just incase no one wanted to talk to me The first person I met was by accident & it was Caprifan (Chris). My mate said to me, "'ere Jim, there's a Capri here like yours, and it has Leather seats in it." I replied with "That looks nice, but Leather isn't my bag baby, give me my shark grey Recaros any day" I then heard Chris say "So what's wrong with Leather then?" We had a chat and a laugh, and soon after I met El Sumo (Iain). What I am trying to put across in my own sort of way is this: I have never met so many genuinley nice people at places I have never been to before. There are no insults, rudness or "My car is better than yours" type behaviour. I can see where you younger members are coming from, and sure, it is a great idea for a mag & it is something which I would personally love to see/read. There have been times in my life where I have met older people with this single minded outlook : "I am older, wiser, and cleverer than any youngster. No youngster will ever know as much as me!" These are the "older" people I hate, they wont give any younger person credit for knowing as much or more than them. Fear not young'uns, these people do not exist here at OSF towers. Everyone here shares one common interest = The Cars. Just wanted to add my bit BTW, can I ask, how does the handicap system work??? Just interested as I know very little about drag racing
Mr Sam Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 come on the OSF youth we need more of you at shows and events next year and taking part in the OSFDC no matter your age experience car or mods....as long as its an OSF
105Nick Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 I'm 21. WTF is going on with this thread? I made friends with an Aussie guy and his wife on Sunday, stood watching the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, as me & my dad do every year. He was loaded and owned a 1903 and 1908 De Dion and a 1930s Wolsley, and told me about each of the old cars as they came by, and I told him about some others too. They were well excited when I brought up my Anglia, and my dads Isetta, and had a really long conversation. I just love classic cars, especially fords but as long as someone appreciates my motor, that I'm driving it, and is willing to chat, whatever else is irrelevant. My old school mate works in the filling station, owned by my dads schoolmates, and all of them chat to me about it, my mate always pats the wing when he's finished filling her up, the owner of the local motor factors asks after it, my dads friends, people outside the nightclub including the bouncers and even a spotty McDonalds servier told me that was the coolest car that'd come through the drive thru all day... I get waves from old boys even in Rollers, Jags and a local guy honked at me when we passed in his model T. Thats all that matters to me, that someone else out there can appreciate it and give me back a conversation. That makes a day for me, as much as it does them. I'm hardly gonna give it a run up the pod either, what with all three bearings worth of 997cc 105E on skinny steels.
LUKE261 Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 WELL SAID NICK, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT, MY DAD IS INTO CLASSIC/HISTORIC VEHICLES TOO, WHETHER IT BE TRACTORS, CARS, MOTORCYCLES OR CLASSIC AND VINTAGE LORRYS WHICH HE IS MORE CUSTOM TOO, I TOOK MY 105E TO A STEAM RALLY WHICH MY DAD WAS ATTENDING AND OF COURSE ALL HIS MATES WITH THERE VINTAGE LORRYS N WHAT NOT ALL STARTED TALKING N THAT, I THINK EVERY BODY WHO WAS THERE HAD A TALE OR 2 TO TELL BOUT AN OL 105E, 100E, ESCORT OR A CORTINA ETC THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT, GETTING OUT AND USING YOUR OSF, REGARDLESS WHETHER YOUR IN WITH THE S CLUB JUNIOR OR NOT, A LOT OF THESE "SENIORS" YOU DONT WANT TO BE UPSETTING IM AFRAID, IF YOU EVER WANT 2 KNOW ANYTHING THEYVE BEEN THERE N DONE IT, FOR EXAMPLE RON HARRIS KNOWS HOW 2 BUILD A PINTO OR A CROSSFLOW DOESNT HE?
