Rick Posted October 11, 2006 Author Report Posted October 11, 2006 im staying out of this now.... i dont feel safe anymore bolts on doors tonight
Messenjah Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 ohc you seem to have missed the point well you seem to have missed my point i thouhgt a young guys group thrash might be a good idea for some time in the future because it would be nice to get to know some of the younger guys on the forum who live up and down the country not for all of us to get together all the time and never meet or talk to anyone over 25 which seems to be what you are implying yes a young guys meet does make it somewhat selective ... but so does a capri group thrash or an escort thrash ..... i was not suggesting a young guns drag championship or anything like that i was thinking of it as more of a once in a blue moon thing not a regular meet like the local meets and i havent said anything like all the young guys have slow cars or were all skint .... i said it would be nice because for some of us who are still at school or doing apprenticeships or similar attenting a regular thing like the osfdc is quite expensive and antz backed me up on that by saying that to get down to the pod would cost him a weeks wages in petrol ... im not saying its not expensive for anyone over 25 aswell i was just pointing out that some of us are pretty damn skint and i understand that not all of us have to pay bills or have kids to support and the fact that were complaining about being skint might annoy some of you but thats not what were trying to do i was just pointing out that for some of the younger members commiting a weeks wages each couple of months might not be particularly easy .. you seem to be taking this all very personally and i dont understand why i know once i have got myself an osf i will e attending as many meets as i can but i for one would really like to see the cars that other people my age have and meet the people behind them discuss with them all they why's and how's and other things like that because im sure a few f them will have run into the same kind of problems i have but a few of them are that bit older and have probabably found ways round the kind of obstacles im running into now as im trying to get my first osf and itd be nice to have a chat to them .....
Twinkle Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 how would you guys feel if we had a meet, track day or thrash an said you cant come because you are too young? was gonna come to the stevenage meet on way back from the pod but clearly from your comments earlier about you having a duscussion with the others i wont be welcome as i am over age.
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 We have a slight difference of opinion here and a bit of blinkeredess as well. Lets start with my opinion. This site is for EVERYONE. It doesn't matter what car you drive, how old you are, how rich or poor you are. It doesn't matter if you have no car at all, as long as you are into OldSkoolFords (hence the name of the site) A certain number of members here it would seem want to have a meet or something which is aimed at a certain section of this community. To me that is a separatist attitude, which is not what this site is all about. Now, before anyone decides to make another speech can anyone address the points I have made?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 11, 2006 I just want to say that everyone is welcome at all of the meets and events and on the board regardless of age, status, whether you are loaded or on the dole, black or white, skinny or fat, ugly or stunning ..... as long as you have an interest in Old Skool Fords (you don't even need to own one) then you are welcome here and at every OSF associated get together
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 That's what I just said But what if someone's like REALLY ugly like a troll or something
Admin Vista Posted October 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 11, 2006 just wondered how many younger OSF people there are on here, sometimes i feel like im too young to be here no ofence to you old boys add me on msn there should be an 18-25 osf meet that involves lots of drinking (no driving afterwards of course How did I miss this political hot potato? Congrats on stirring up a hornets nest I personally am not ageist, if you guys with smaller cars want to race against each other where you have a chance of crossing the line first in a similar spec'd car, I understand that totally. Personally I have no interest in caning my car in a straight line........add a few corners and I might consider it . It would end up being a 500+ mile round trip for me though so I don't ever see me making it That said, arranging your own social group is a different matter, when I was younger and first started messing around with old cars, I learnt a lot from the older people that I met and I was never made to feel unwelcome despite having an obviously younger outlook and interests. I doubt things are any different nowadays as I still attend shows with people both much older and mucher younger than me and happy to learn from the older and teach the younger or vice versa depending on the situation (see I can admit there are people younger than me that I can learn from). I don't see a need for any division on an age basis as I think that part of what makes a group like this interesting is the wide range of ages, interests and experiences that get discussed. It'd be a shame for an us and them type thing to start. So that leaves drinking.............and despite being 36, I'm up for that, trust me we don't forget how to as we get older I suggest this one is put to bed with everyone gathered around yards of ale then the playing field is equal without resorting to the drag strip Just my thoughts
Twinkle Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 i didnt even consider myself old til i read this thread
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Eloquently put Mr Vista I know I'm old
DeuceCoupe Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 i didnt even consider myself old til i read this thread your old and past it Twinkle over 30
Messenjah Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 twinkle you are another person who seems ot have taken it completely the wrong way ... im not saying I WONT TALK TO ANYONE OVER "% BECAUSE I THINK THEYRE TOO OLD infact if you look again i will say that i talked to almost everyone at the stevenage meet and the only other person who has come to the stevenage meet who has posted on this thread is smithy saying how old he was so im sure you are talking a bout my comment im not saying at all that i dont want to meet anyone fro mthe site who is over 25 hell i said i enjoy talking to people who are older then me bacause they have more experience i i can learn alot from talking to and listening to them ... and thats what the meets are about is it not getting to know people we are all united on this site by an intrest in all things osf and its great meeting people who have been involved in the scene for a while but it could be slightly initmidating if you are the only young person at a meet because it is alot easier i find anyway to talk to someone youre own age and it would be nice to get to know the younger guys aswell a few of the youngere guys dont ake it to all the big meets all the time ( i mysaelf havent made it to any) and there is a chance that when we do make it it will be at a different time ot some of the other younger guys and we wont end up meeting each other so if we did a one off or a once a year or something like that meet between all the younger guys who want to attend the chances are more of us would attend it and get to know each other im sorry if my comments have offended anyone or made you think i dont want to talk to you because youre older then me it is not what i intended at all and since what i have said seems to be taken the wrong way by atleast one person each time i say something ill just stop talking before i offend everyone
pigeon Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 I think that this discussion/argument simply highlights the differences in outlook that younger people have with those more experienced in life. I hate to say that someone is old at 25, but as in all things there needs to be a line. I think that a lot of people are taking this very personally when to me (as a young-ung) it all seems quite reasonable. OSF is predominantly made out of people that are over 25 and although for some under 25s they might find it easy and natural to mingle with people a lot older than themselves but I think for the majority of younger people it can be quite intimidating. For people of less experience and knowledge the perceived risk of making an idiot out of yourself when attempting to socialise with those of more experience is an issue. It just so happens that this group of people are generally those of few years. As said before this is not a planned regular thing just a one off, which would hopefully make the “proper” meets more enjoyable for all. At the end of the day there is a reason why young people generally tend to have friends of similar ages. I know that it is a very touchy subject but I see no harm in there being a one off meet. I certainly wouldn’t subscribe to the idea of having regular YOSF meets, that would almost betray the idea of the site, I agree. Make sense?
Capri_Steve Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Ditto. I can't see why people (person) are taking things personally. Its just a one off idea. Plus you say everyone is welcome, how come a D reg sierra cossie is not welcome on the site yet an E reg brookie is?
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 ...Plus you say everyone is welcome, how come a D reg sierra cossie is not welcome on the site yet an E reg brookie is? Have you any idea what consttutes an Old Skool Ford in the context of this forum? No? then let me explain Typically, an English Ford first produced before 1980. All with with RWD with the exception of the Mk1 Fiesta. These cars were designed by people, not computers and wind tunnels they have style, character, and no plastic. Sierras have their place in this world, but not here

Capri_Steve Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Never mind. Lets all take a step back and review how ridiculous this all is please. Normal meets and DC = fantastic. Perhaps a one off meet for YOSF = Excellent. No-ones stopping a similar thing for OOSF. = Excellent.
Gareth Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Lets not go down the sierra route again please peeps I think the youg 'uns thrash would be good as a mag feature This seems to be getting outta hand to me I've met a few of the "oldies" as some of u guys have named them, And they're cool as fook, same as us younger chaps ( & ladies ) That's my 2p's worth Jo, reading the line from that song Jay was quotin, he doesn't happen to be a fan of an Uxbridge based band called Frowser by chance
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 We were kidding about the OOSF meet Would a YOSF meet mean that if you were up to the age of 24 you're welcome, but anyone else cannot attend? And who decies the cut-off age?
Gareth Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 M8 this confuses the fook outta me........
Messenjah Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 i think the meet would be predominantly made up of people 25 and under but i woudlnt think if we do have one that anyone over 25 turning up would be told "oi m8 f00k off this is for under 25 year olds " because thats just plain rude and were not like that (for the most part ) agasin im not saying if you are over 25 you are old .. but the idea of a yosf meet is to get the guys of a similar age together if it ranges from 17 up to 25 thats almost 10 years difference between the youngest and oldest an age gap bigger then that and imho youre not really of a similar age ... i spoke to one of the ppl i though i had offended and e assures me hes ok with what ive said but if any of you do have a problem please pm me and ill happily talk to you (only if ure under 25 tho jks)

Messenjah Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 tis a sound idea but i dont wanna approach a mag to do a feature untill ive got my own osf
