whats a good cheap way to secure your motor

 

i thought my last one was ok with steering wheel crook lock and a imobiliser to the coil

 

but how wrong i was the police told me they probally took my steering wheel off

 

i would never of thought of that

 

which has now lead me to believe the crook locks are useless as ive looked at them and true enough you could get round behind and remove the steering wheel the gear stick to handbrake lock rag the gear knob off wheel clamp take the wheel off

 

alarms nobody pays attention to them

 

i cant afford a tracker which apparantly dont work if in a container

 

wtf do we do to beat the thiefing scum

 

all ideas please

I remember seeing on Tomorrows World in the late 80s a brake line lock. You'd park up, put your foot on the brake then turn a key which is the valve. That locks all the brakes on. It showed them trying to drive the car away (XR3i Cabrio) and they just couldn't.

 

Anyone know if they're sold anywhere?

sounds good is that similar to the ones used for drag racing but opperated with a key

I locked my keys in the escort a couple of weeks back.

 

It was a busy multi-storey car park on a saturday afternoon.

 

There I am obviously trying to open the car (using secret methods that cant be discussed on a public forum :wink: ). The number of people who walked past gawping was just amazing yet not one person said a word :roll: .

Deadlocks

Remove rotor arm/ disconnect coil

Hidden immobiliser switch to the fuel pump or battery

Disclok (sp)

Handbreak/gear stick lock (may not stop them but add them with others & it'll slow them down a bit)

have seen run flat valves, one on each wheel and if you done unlock them before you drive off the tyres deflate, bit of a pain if you forget you locked them though :lol:

i used to have a hidden immobilser switch built into my ignition.

 

another idea is a fuel tap (like on a motorcyle) but hidden from view :thumbsup:

What about the steering wheel lock that covers the whole steering wheel ??

can't remember what its called (disclock) i think.

its thatcham approved and also prevents airbag theft :thumbsup:

I have 2 immobilisers and an Alarm on the Capri, and a Thatcham cat 1 alarm and 2 stage immobiliser on the Anglia.

 

The locking breaking system was a good suggestion for Sierra and Escort Cosworth drivers back in the day because as we all know, they kept going walkies. At one point, no insurance company would touch you on a Sierra Cosworth unless you had it fitted with a Vector Immobiliser.

 

Truth be told, unless you weld it to the floor, they will still have it if they want it... these people have more front than Brighton, and it certainly wouldn't be the first story I have heard where the thiefs have used a flat bed lorry with a Hijab to lift a car while it has been parked right outside the owners house.

 

I am lucky enough to have a couple of neighbours that will look out their windows if my alarm does go off, but the secret with that is not to have an alarm that goes off every minuite of the day. If you have one that is so sensitive it will go off if a Bumble Bee lands on the bonnet, your neighbours will just not bother looking. Mine are set up so if they go off... there IS a reason.

 

To be honest, I have never gone in for steering locks etc. I have always fitted the best alarm/immobiliser I can afford, but Mk5's idea with the fuel tap is a good one.

 

Also, there is a gadget you can buy that fit's to the battery which is a power cut off. Now, you may say, what is the point of that, because your alarm isn't powered??, well, they do them now where all low current circuits are still live, i.e. alarms, clocks etc. But when someone goes to crank the engine over... nothing happens.

 

At the end of the day, if they want it bad enough, they will take it. Just bell it up, immobilize it, if you can afford to... Track it, and block it in when you leave it parked up at night. That should put off all but the most professional theifs :wink:

I might be being a bit paranoid here mate... but it might be an idea to edit your post. Your numberplate is in your sig, and you never know who maybe perusing the site... if you know what I mean :wink:

old mobile phone wired up permanently on charge then there are websites that can track mobiles to the nearest so many metres for a small fee.

i've got a cut off switch on mine, along with a crook lock

 

it's not much, but nobody wants a mk1 fezza, just what's in it :roll:

 

ps. my battery keeps going flat at the moment so it wouldn't start anyways :lol:

oh yeah, and the bonnet release is in an awkward place in a fezza, so when those pikeys tried to have mine away, they couldn't open the bonnet cos they couldn't find it :lol:

thats exactly what i had on my escort and i swear nobody knew where it was except my wife and nobody watched me

 

so how did they get it running which they did because i heard it start up and saw them drive off in it
