James May on the Mk1 Cortina

In the TV guide with the Express is has a few pages about James Mays new programme about 20th century innovations that changed the world and he talks about the mk1 cortina it says

 

"Cars came good in 1962 because thats when my dad brought home a Mk1 Ford Cortina" he explains "it took Britain by storm. What's so great aboyt the car is what it perfectly encapsulates in its name. Prior to this, British Cars were named after sleppy university towns or seats of government - the Westminster, the Oxford. But the Cortina was named after an Itallien resort. It was a car that encouraged people to say "Lets go out for a spin".

 

It quickly became the most popular car in the country but behind its glamourous facade beat a simple and reliable engine"

I bet you in the 60's owning such a cracker as a mk1 tina would of been one hell of a cool experience.

They look fantastic now and they did back then.

 

I mean sit a mk1 cortina next to a morris oxford.And compare. I don't think so.

Not in the same league.

 

I miss mine now,badly.It was such a coool lookin car.
