Please state what you would suggest ffitting to a 2L fast road pinto, no actual engine mods as such just standard block (injection head) with FR cam and vernier pulleys...

But please also state your reasons why you would make that choice...

Hopefully some good responces should make this rather helpful and interesting to boot... Whos guna be first to set the ball rolling?

Step right up! step right up!

The way I understand it on a pinto twin 40's are ok for a mild state of tune, then you move up to 45's for a fast road engine and then 48's and possibly 50's for a balls out race engine.

What Jon said but with slight expansion.

As 40's aren't significantly cheaper than 45's to buy, but 45's are far more flexible in that will happily run a mildly tuned engine with the right chokes and jetting. I'd go for 45's rather than 40's, this gives you room to uprate the engine further at a later date without any more carb swaps. My Pinto runs on 45's with 40mm chokes and puts out a fraction over 190bhp but is still perfectly useable on the road.

48's or 50's would probably have squeezed more horse power out of the engine at top end, but at the expense of driveability further down the rev range.

So my vote, for what it's worth, is for 45's.

use it every day and its fine.

sits in traffic idles at 850rpm

power 2000 2500

I was once told (However true it is) ideally 40's up to 1800, thereafter 45's to 2.0 - possibly 2.1 then 48's after 2.1.

50's would then belong to something that's gonna live on a track rather than the road.

However, this was always mentioned as a guide, as different peeps use what they can get

As Vista says, 45's with small chokes, room to upgrage at a later date.
