Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 i have a mk1 fiesta electric fan would it be enough to keep a fast road 2.0 pinto cool and get rid of the viscous fan whch would you do and could i put it between the grill and rad (out of sight) would it still blow the right way ias on the fiesta it was behind the rad?
over_head_cam Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Really depends how much of the rad it covers Dave. Has it got a cowling on it? If it was on the back it would be 'pull' fan. All you have to do is swap the connections over and make it a 'push'
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 yes it does have a cowling is that good or bad so if i can get it to cover the majority of the rad is that ok would the said fan do the job
bomber1 Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 what ohc means is if the cowling is to enclosed over the front of the rad u wont get enough air flow to the rad when the fan isnt on this is the kind of fan u need
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 so if i remove the cowling will it be a good enough fan
bomber1 Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 suck it n see m8 seeing as it dont cost ya try it but keep an eye on the guage. if it dont get a pacet or an rst fan
over_head_cam Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 I should think so. I heard that instead of in the middle, that slightly to the right and up a bit is best, nearer to your top hose (I'm sure someone a bit more knowledgable will be on soon to confirm or not )
tonymk2wagon Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 i'm running a granny scorpio fan removed from its mount in front of a capri rad(same ish as tina) on my pintoed escort . its excellent doesnt need to run all the time and never got hot. fan is about 13"/14" across and covers a fair bit of the rad. fiesta fan maybe a touch small.
emu Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 If it was on the back it would be 'pull' fan. All you have to do is swap the connections over and make it a 'push' Im probably wrong so slap me if I am, but aren't the fan blades on a 'puller' and a 'pusher' a different shape? What I mean is surely a 'puller' running backwards wont push as much air as 'pusher' running normally? (Does that make sense?) Grab the fan from a peugeot (205/ 405/306) They push a hell of a lot of air and are quite slim.
lee_capri Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 erm yeh they are but if you put the wires on other way round it spins backwards
emu Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 But the blades are curved to help push or pull the air (depending on how it was originally designed to work). I know that if you reverse the feed itll spin backwards but what I meant is it wont work as well as a fan that was designed to push air in the first place.
lee_capri Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 drove mk5 escort about like this with fan on other side of rad because when put 2.0l in it out of mondeo and being tight as i am i used what i had as they wernt enough room between rad and exuset only time it got warm was went sat still but that would take 45mins to hr so i would do it same way again if i ran out of room dont no what you guys think
johnno11 Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 I've fitted a fan from a mid-90s civic on my Capri. Fits infront of the rad and runs off a fiesta fan switch in the top hose. Seems to work ok, you can leave it ticking over as long as you like and the fan will switch on and off as required without boiling up. Only cost about a tenner
over_head_cam Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Nice one Johnno Richard, I see your point and i think you may be correct (unless it has flat blades )
Admin Vista Posted July 15, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 15, 2007 If it was on the back it would be 'pull' fan. All you have to do is swap the connections over and make it a 'push' Im probably wrong so slap me if I am, but aren't the fan blades on a 'puller' and a 'pusher' a different shape? Grab the fan from a peugeot (205/ 405/306) They push a hell of a lot of air and are quite slim. You're spot on. A pusher and a puller have different shaped blades and whilst reversing the connections will give you an airflow, it'll be way down on efficiency.
Copey Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 cant you buy electric fan kits?? that come with everythin you need? would probably be better, at least you know its made for the car then
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 cant you buy electric fan kits?? that come with everythin you need? would probably be better, at least you know its made for the car then yes i"ll look into that i think cheers
GT_Jim Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 i bought a 15" pacet fan for the tina it worked really well and i made the loom myself if your interested i can sent you the diagrams etc as i did it as part of my coursework at college
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 yeah pm me with details if you can cheers
X-pack-Glyn Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 ive heard claims of getting rid of the viscous gives 5 bhp gains but in reality the viscous sapps about 0.004 of the total power. the fixed engine driven fansare far worse for sapping power, but even the worst of those is only about 0.5 bhp. one thing an engine driven fan does do is keep air moving through the bay, i, exhaust manifold heat etc... mines still got its viscous, may not look pretty, but it works.
bortaf Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 I use a S2 RSturbo fan in front of the rad running off a fiesta switch in the top hose using a pacet hose kit from Burtons You play with differnt switches from other fords to get the exact temp you want it to kick in at
peterbilt Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Have the fan working on both viscouse and electric just need to fit a switch the you can bring in a bit more air flow when the temp gauge starts to rise
