sab6024 Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I'm of the view, it's your car you can do what you want with it. You can't please all the people all the time If some like it and your happy with it then whats the problem
Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 17, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 17, 2007 Okay ... I don't have a clue what you're talking about in your rant ... so .... let's start again ... what is it that you would like to do to the car that others don't agree with? Perhaps subtle mods would be more acceptable to "older" members if that is what you are concerned about but personally, I think you should do what you like to your car it's not really anyone elses business ...... lots of people said to me that superlites are common and I shouldn't put them on my car but I went ahead anyway cos I like them.
Rick Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 oldies will always complain im gonna get the : 'so is it a genuine type 49 shell?' 'fraid not its a replica' end of conversation as they turn their noses up at my car if people are gonna be narrow minded enough to poo poo your efforts then they aint worth listening to
Pye Man Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Exactly!! If we followed everyone elses ideas we wouldnt be individual
FlashCadillac Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 Exactly!! If we followed everyone elses ideas we wouldnt be individual yeah but there is individual and then there's outside i dont want to be stood at a 1 car car show because nobody else likes it too old for the saxo boys and too different to be old skool
mk2_escort_chick Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 everyones tastes are different-do your caper how YOU want! i'm going zetec in my fez, some people are like "oh but thats not an old skool engine" Bothered!!!! It's up 2 you what you do with your car, as long as it makes you happy
Osgood Isgood Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Exactly!! If we followed everyone elses ideas we wouldnt be individual yeah but there is individual and then there's outside i dont want to be stood at a 1 car car show because nobody else likes it too old for the saxo boys and too different to be old skool Now listen here young man! You are 19 years old, and therefore are expected to make "mistakes" as you have eons of time on your side in which to put them right! I hand painted my First Anglia when I was 19, including painting the rear side windows black.....I thought it looked groovy and THAT was all that mattered! Stop worrying about what anyone else thinks, so long as you are not hurting anyone else do what the bloody hell you like! Here endeth the lesson!
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 My second car was a Mini-Metro which I put loads of stickers in.... Max Power, On A Mission. Also had more speakers than a branch of Dixons... you know the drill. I even had a night rider light The way I see it is this: I have always liked/owned old cars because I like to be different. So, straight away you are already different to the 'Norm'. Now, I can see your point with doing things that other people have done... I have been in the same boat with the Lotus Cortina wheels on the Anglia. Most people fit these, but to be honest, the Anglia is an old car, so there wasn't alot of different snazzy wheels about at that time which actually look any good on them. So, this is how I thought of it: How many early Anglia's in my colours have you seen with Lotus wheels on??? Exactly. Yes, I have Lotus wheels, but my colours are quite rare. What I am trying to get across is this: You are keeping it Brown (well, I hope so, because as you know, I like it). Not many people would want to keep that colour, so you are already being different. I hope you keep your bonnet as well because most people would nail on a 3.0/facelift bonnet, so you will be different there. I think alot of small differences have more of an impact that one big one. It keeps you looking, you know there isn't something quite normal going on, so you look harder. But ultimatley, at the end of the day, it is your motor, so if you like what you have done, then that IS all that matters. BTW, I like your plans mate... get cracking
mk1mexico Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Do what you like mate personally i think it should stay clean and brown with shiny chrome. Havent seen another like it recently??? Of all my friends theres only a couple who appreciate my car, the rest of them are always asking why i put so much money into it and im wasting my cash. But i like it so fook em
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 its your car m8 do what you want !!!!!!!! i come on here for ideas and advice too but it doesnt mean you have to do what the majority say i find it helps with decissions but still have my own ideas in my head look at my wheels or home made exhaust for example i like them but theyre not mods which were done to this car in its time i did it for me do your car for you as you want it
FlashCadillac Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 i nearly bought that car a few weeks before you did... ...im finding it hard to understand why i now own a mk2 fez
S2 Dee Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 If you get some constructive criticism then fair enough, if people moan because it is not to their taste then stuff them. At the end of the day it is your car, do as you wish with it. Different is good.
Tripled-X Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I gotta agree with everyone else - do your own thing and as long as it's done to the best of your ability, people might not like it but they should respect it
Copey Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 yeah ur never gonna please every1, but as long as ur keepin an OSF on the road and not doin some dumb shit with it, no-one will be that bothered!! plus i think ur car will look the dogs danglies in ur photoshop design!!
fezza Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Whatever you do,some people will like it,some will hate it,some people just wont be able to make their mind up either way,no matter what you do you cant please everyone, and for that matter why would you want to please anyone other than yourself I do to my car what i think looks good, end of

I get this same question sometimes, usually from people who sit in front of a three grand telly watching Big Brother or some other sh*te!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i nearly bought that car a few weeks before you did... ...im finding it hard to understand why i now own a mk2 fez glad you didnt buy it i love it really enjoying it and theres nothing wrong with mk 2 fiestas my wife has one
MK5 Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 i used to drive a very rare 2 door mk5 Cortina (only 482 made to the particular specification). it started life as a 1.6 auto and ended up a heavily modified 2.0 i got an awful lot of criticism for modifying her... but.... what is more important.... that she could have stayed standard and spent 95% of her life in a garage or she was madly modified and driven every day...? she caused controversy and got me loads of attention every where i went in her. and thats what its about. keeping our OSF's in the public eye!! my current mk5 (Nina) seems to get more attention because i haven't modified her. most people can't believe i've kept the original 2.3 engine. AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS YOUR CAR. YOU DRIVE IT. AS LONG AS IT MAKES YOU SMILE THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.
