mossy Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 The rear left wheel (drum) has seized on my mk1...As it does not run, i need to push it onto my trailer.... But i cant move it as the wheel is locked on....How can i solve this? Big hammer to take the drum off and then clean it all up?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 bray the drum off with a big hammer
RedditchJay Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 use a good soft face hammer, copper or hyde.... NOT METAL as you will dent your drum..... hit the drum all around teh edges working around and around, you can try to hit the lip but watch you dont catch teh backplate....... HTH jay
flyingbanana Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 same has above....but it all fails.....start hitting it with the biggest hammer you have..........had to do it my self until it broke into pieces
escort21 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Wolfie...mate....if the drum would come off he wouldn't have a problem
Jarrodm Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hit the drum with a lump hammer....Works everytime........ Jarrod
over_head_cam Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 If it has manual adjusters you can wind them out a bit
mossy Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 tried a gentle persuasion with my copper hammer....and nothing happened! a lot of dirt and dust but that was it. so.........I smashed the fook out of it with my big hammer...And still stuck! Need to put it on a trailer by sunday!
Gonzo Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 cook the f*ck out of it with the biggest blowtorch you can find, *then* belt it with a big hammer.
Cookie Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Are you hitting it from all sides m8? as in smashing fook out of the front, then the sides/top/bottom and then the back like? hit it hard as poss all over to try and break the rust
MK2Ed Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Spray it with WD, leave overnight then give it a good smack...
escort21 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Sod it.....stick a roller skate under the wheel
john_3.0s Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 i use a big pry bar just under the lip of the drm the you can use the biggest hammer u got to clobber the bar and free off the drum but they canbe a bitch
bortaf Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Put an old steel wheel on and bash that with the biggest hammer you can find, don't hit the drum with a big hammer or it may shatter
james p Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 hit the back of the drum it should free off enough to roll oh hook it onto anouther car and drag it down the road
lee_capri Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 get a slege hammer and smack fo*k right on the front or rim if you want the rim best change it have never had this style not work very big hammers work on eveything the bigger the hammer the better just mind ware your nuts are the ones on the car
mr shag Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 check that hand brake cable has released on that side pry bar & hammer keep working around the drum
