LADY WIT Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Hi all, I've got a 1967 Anglia 105e and would like to change the original engine for something quicker. I have been told to look for a 1600 crossflow lump, can anyone let me know if this is the right choice. Any advice would be welcomed.
Wessie Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 i would go crossflow you could also go zetec, YB, jap turbo, anything you want really !
Delotus Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 It's got to be x flow for me. I did it to my mk1 tina, hence a little easier to get tuned bits for and it was well worth it. All depends on what car the xflow motor comes out of too,mk2 cortina has a front bowl sump mk1 / 2 escort has a rear bowl sump. Also there are a few different blocks to chose from, 68 1f is the older type x flow and a 711m is the later type and this later one is genarally chosen if you want to modify it heavilly. Thing you need to consider is basically the bottom end of the cross flow engine is the same as a pre x flow .I say basically ,there are other slight differences. But there are differences in what types of clutches where fitted. Engine will Bolt to the anglia gearbox no problem. Your anglia will need a front bowl mounted sump and oil pick up pipe and a front timing casing with the dipstick hole in. Then you will need to block off the old rear dipstick hole. As a bit of luck your pre crossflow one off the anglia should do.(i think) The top end you will need to sort an exhaust manifold out to mate up with the existing silicer. Try askin Neil at 105 speed,he helped me emmensly when i fitted the tuned 1700 x flow to my mk1 tina, but i needed a lot off uprated parts (clutch )etc for mine which you will not need if you are keeping it standard..ish Hope this helps, Tim
Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 26, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 26, 2007 The possibilities are endless .... it depends how much work you want to do to convert it
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 If you have a nice shell, it would be a shame to cut it about. So, I would go for Crossflow although I have stayed with Pre Crossflow power in mine. It has to be said, Jim really really has the hots for a Zetec conversion, but this is costly, then you need to look at other parts of the car... i.e. Brakes and suspension. Pinto's are too heavy for the Anglia, and to get the weight distribution right, you need to cut the bulkhead out to move it further back. Have you thought of a 1500 Cortina Pre Crossflow??? This would make it look as it should, but you will get a few more ponies. Mr. Neil at 105speed.com will be able to go into more detail with each engine swap if you want to know more Hope this helps... and welcome to this wonderfull world that they call Old Skool Ford
Doc Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 simple engine swap and the first id attempt , Been doen a million times and a pretty good way of getting more bang for your buck
over_head_cam Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 There are lots of reasons to choose the 1600 crossflow. But you could consider a 1500 pre-crossflow which will be just perfect I think. ps Welcome to OSF
ever88 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 xflow is the natural choice for reasonable simplicity but you haven't stated your expectations. i.e will 120bhp commonly tuned xflow state satisfy? if so then it's a no brainer
razersedge Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 what about 1300 gsxr hibussa engine they do all the linkages and cross members for the anglia, now u can buy everything u need for the swap and just imagine the sound of that roaring to 16,000 od revs and they do a turbo coversion for the bike so why not in a car
Nettles Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 what about 1300 gsxr hibussa engine they do all the linkages and cross members for the anglia, now u can buy everything u need for the swap and just imagine the sound of that roaring to 16,000 od revs and they do a turbo coversion for the bike so why not in a car I fook'in love this idea Drop a Bussa lump into it, you know you want to
razersedge Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 apparently the bussa with the turbo conversion is 230 mph anglia bussa engine turbo conversion 5.1 with lsd u might even get wheelies out of it like the bussa and it would sound soo mean
LADY WIT Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 oooooohhh mammma!!! gimme gimme that busa.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 welcome to osf x-flow would be good a choice
cledus Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 I would stick with pushrod power - real old skool. My Mk 1 Cortina motor features a 711M bottom end, BDA flat top pistons (eliminates the need to deck the block) and a Burton pre- x-flow head. It revved like a good-un with a lightened flywheel on it. It's currently out for a pep up, but when it was on the road, it was really good fun.
hotrodholty Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 1600 x/flow, lumenition ignition, 4 branch manifold and twin choke webber. iv got this setup in my mk1 one and its reliable and pretty quick. im doing about 250 mile a week and it never lets me down. all in including the engine and box it cost me about £500.00. although a bike engine would be sweet if you got the dough.
