Super_Shaun Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Ive got a number of phones laying around and was thinking of hard wiring one into my car as a Tracking system. Ive had a quick flick through Google and found quite a few sites but has anyone used this before? Any recomendations?
4parajon Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 ZetecVan was looking at this last year, not sure if he ever got it working ok though
Rick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 id be interested to hear from anyone thats does it successfully. better than forking out daft money for a super alarm sytsem
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Yes, I wired a modified one up to the van. When it was parked outside my house, the tracking website reckoned it was about half a mile away. But when it was parked outside my work, it reckoned it was more or less parked outside my work. The accuracy depends on where the phone masts are. If the van was parked in someones garage on my street, it would be hard to find cos it thinks it will be in a field a couple of minutes away.
Copey Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 hmmm...wonder if i get get my dad to get a tracker in from his work, they have trackers in all the vans i could just get one and put it in my car...hhhmmmmm
Rick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 could you use a few phones on diff networks to get a rough area
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Get a proper tracker fitted but expensive
RFChris Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 NB, only Phil uses chocolate, nuts and honey as an anti-theft device. Should you wish to steal any of his vehicles just bring a healthy appetite and you're onto a winner.

Ratters Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 £175 ain't bad. Esp if your car is anything like Al's, Posse's, KevMk2's, P.I.G's, etc, etc & worth a small fortune Spose it depends how much the car is worth & exactly what it means to you.
Rick Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 no, thats just for the bloke to come and chop all your wiring up id install it myself thanks
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Found a few cheap tracking devices on ebay last night (£50) . They are a G.S.M. tracker using vodaphones mobile phone network to pin point your cars location . The device comes with a pay as you go sim card which recieves signals from local phone masts and sends you a text message when you send it one ( if that makes sense ) They wire up to your cars 12v d.c. supply and have back up batteries which last 2 weeks should the battery become disconnected . If your car goes missing you just text the device and it replys with it's location and then you can post up on here where it is and get a mob together to go and get it !!!!!!!! As zetecvan has already said it will depend on the phone masts locations to determine it's position so no phone coverage = it won't work !!!!!!!! Worth a look though and lots too choose from , go for the one i've described above as it's got a normal car battery supply and doesn't just rely on the batteries inside like most of them do . Just type in "tracker" on ebay and have a look http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=013
