Just been given a £40 fine for not updating my sorn declaration for my escort. Does anyone know if there should be some sort of reminder before you get fined, and has anyone had a similar problem and managed to get out of the fine? The car is a bare shell and is upside down on a rollover jig! Unlikely I'm going to be driving it much. Long shot i know...

its the same letter they send to renew your tax disc on your normal car...gives 3options..

 

Tax 6months

Tax 12months

SORN....All i did was tick the sorn box and send it back! ring em up and ask why they didnt send a letter

Or swear blind you sent the SORN letter back? But I reckon you will just have to cough it up, I had that with a motorbike a few years back...

Gulp! My SORN came through for a while ago & I forgot to do it....how long till I can expect a fine? It was for the end of august.

when i had my tax to do, the doris at the dvla said they give 2 weeks "grace" before sending the reminder stu

if you can get the number off the top right had side of the reminder, you can do it on line. Failing that, use the number on the V5C. Not got anyone who can give you the numbers from home?

i recently had one even tho i got a tax refunded has i took it off the road and it was sorn at the same time.....i just sent evidence to them showing that my car has been off the road before their date and also that its currently still off the road.....im still waiting to get info back....but they dont have a leg to stand on really..has i have all the paper work to prove it

The scumbag tw*ats sent me one the oether week to say the recovery truck that some pikey had away was due for new tax!!!!

 

They can do all this funky computer magic to catch you out on the smallest of things to grab a fine from you but can't cross reference a reg number!!!!!!!!

ring them up tell them then u may have to send a letter or email to say the same but i would just to cover ur self ps did u get a letter back saying u are discharged from ownership/liabilty for the starlet?

 

i broke an escort up 3years ago sorned it once and never heard back. still have the shell for it

Send it off to them with a letter stating that you've sold the car & give details of the person you sold it to (Name & address if you have it).

 

That's what I did when I got a parking ticket through for a mk1 I had sold several months beforehand

The last tax disk on me Capper is from 97 and I have never had a sorn for it since then!! Must have slipped under the radar, plus a have moved a few times since then
