I've got to say my experiences are quite the opposite. i teach (allegedly) at a large comprehensive school. I park my mk2 up amongst the normal horde of 106's, 207's, saxos etc every monday. The kids love my car and they are refreshingly honest.

Comments I remember:

"I really dunno what that car is, But I LIKE it"

"that is sick, it is like a little muscle car"

My son is only two but recognises Mk1&2 escorts on sight, as well as Subaru impreza's (neighbours fault)! My daughter is three and can point out all the major parts on a super bike (shock, brakes, engine tank etc). I felt a bit guilty when she could do this before she even knew colours

I spotted a young couple today by my Pop in my works car park, he was taking a photo of her standing by my car, I was quite chuffed. Also got some young girl taking a sly pic on her mobile from the back of her dads Mondeo .... Lets hope the young un's see the chav mobiles for what they really are before it's too late...loved reading these experiences though guys n girls.

Without doubt whenever i am out in my car i get 2 or 3 comments (atleast) about my mk2, its a nice feeling that someone would love to have it. I remember going down the imperial way cruise in mine and done a nice burnout for all the chavs in there corsas etc, one of them shouted 'id give my right arm for your car mate!' loved it! Also my dad was out in his mk1 and there was a chavved up golf behind him, the two kids inside were laughing at his car, thats until he dropped it into second gear and left them standing! Think they realised then that it wasnt 'just an old peice of crap!'.

Slightly of topic but to Ricks comment on luering chavs into a race......

My younger brother has always been into VW's in a simaler vain as to what we are like with OSF's. Anyway he went out and bought a polo G40 then went and spent a small fortune on the engine, upgrading to an eaton supercharger, flowed head, smaller charger pullys ect. He then went on to swapping the grille, badges, alloys, big exhaust ect and replaced them with standard items even drapeing a tarten blanket over the back seat and a box of tissues on the rear shelf just to give it that "grandad" look. The fun we used to have in that on a friday night was fooking ace, It would even keep up with a cosworth up to about 60 mph, All coming fron a standard looking polo that you can pick up for around the price it would cost you to buy, fit and paint a wide boy punto body kit. Awsome

Its all about exposing these youths to the scene(be it hot rods/osf/modified classic etc),poor misguided souls that they are. Whilst reading this thread there clearly is good support for OSF by a younger generation too many would rather not get their hands dirty with a car, that initially at least, will spending large amounts of time dumping fluids , snapping drive shafts or just not starting and thus more time under the bonnet than driving with their mates.

Therefore they buy a mass market hatch complete with warranty and then proceed to glue plastic all over it before removing springs and resting it on the bumpstops! Not my scene but I will concede in some instances it can be well executed.

Some of the comments also make me recall being mocked by youths in 1.0 litre Nova whilst out in my Volvo T5 daily, renowned grandad car of course. Never has taking several 1000miles out of my tyres in a few metres being more entertaining, and if a looked through the tyre smoke I'm sure I saw a few slack jaws!

Iv not had much trouble from chavs I had a moment before I did the engine conversion about a year ago but the best they could come up with was 'scrap it' they were in a chav-alier and on the same night some kappa slapper was walking passed and said 'you cold in there' and laughed err hello your the one walking:lol: Iv not played with anyone either I think the side exit out them off, but a few are starting tooknow the car. My neigbour was asked the other day if they knew about a orange mk2 estate cos they saw it the other night speeding passed them at a chav hot spot unkown to me  its just the way I got to get petrol

best comment i heard was a young lad about 16-17 and his mrs, walking past the yard where i work, the car was parks a few feet from me i was unloading a wagon

he was lookin it over caught a few complimentary words, he gets to the front and i clearly heard him go " what the fook, its a ford !?"
