hotrodholty Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 im toying with the idea of dropping a v6 in the escort (cossy 24v) i remember seeing a mk2 with one in last year at the wirral meet and was just wondering whats involved. what box, loom, injection/carbs ect? i know ill get loads of you saying ecorts should have 4 pots in em but hey i like to do things a bit different, if i thought i could put an 8 in it for the same kind of dough i would. theres loads of cossy v6's for a couple of hundred £'s and with 200bhp out of the box its cheap power and a nice sound. what do ya,ll reckon?
Admin Vista Posted September 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 23, 2007 How much does a V6 cosworth lump weigh? Whilst it may have a good power output in stock trim, if it's really heavy it could upset the balance of what in reality is quite a small car. Personally I like the V sound and the more cylinders the better, but the old motto "If it ain't broke don't fix it" springs to mind as a 4 Pot cossie YB engine wil fit perfectly and the car will go like the clappers.
Copey Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 the v6 cossy weighs the same as a 2.8i capper engine, ther abouts, would hinder handling and you would need to fit power steerin probably
john_3.0s Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 v6col has got an essex in his escort
Seals2 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 not a big fan of the 24v cossie cos they get a lot of electrical faults and stop the engine from starting. something lik v6 col would be a better way to look at it.
hellblue Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Use the Granada BOA engine loom & ecu (not the scorpio BOB engine) hybrid MT75 box 1x 2wd box & 1x 4wd V6 box, to make the one you need or T5 not as cheap though,I would cut the bulkhead though to set it back a bit, make new gearbox tunnel, sort the brakes !! no more electrical faults than any other motor ?? A fair bit of work in all . Rover v8 would be the cheap v8 way though i would start with a 3.9 at least !
Dom Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Not had a problem with cossie v6's so far, apart from one letting go at about 130 but nothing electrical. Could always go aftermarket with the management, if you're feeling plush Hybrid gearbox is probably your best bet, could always try and find a genuine one but more often than not they are hugely over-priced.

hellblue Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Seen a couple of rovers in escorts with no bulkhead mods, & various sumps between cars & discos ect, rover P6s ect had 5 speed boxs try ebay, other boxs have been used but dont know what adapter plates there are
bomber1 Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 m8 use the gearbox that comes with the engine then get the two props cut n shut to match. this v engines are two heavy is toffy imo use 2.8 capri suspension up front it will be fine

My m8's mk1 had a V8 in it in the 80's. All thats been done to that was a big tunnel and a beating of the bulkhead. To do it proper I'd move the bulkhead back though But it can be donea 'lazy' way
Col-ashtonmobile Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 you cant tell from the outside that this car has a very heavy essex v6 and all the running gear installed the way it sits and handles, the only tell tale is the twin exhaust out the back
