Dom Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Are they any good? Just aquired 4 of them
BIG G Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 They were the eighties engine of choice...cheap horse power
john_3.0s Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 used to be a common transplant into escorts / kitcars / morris minors etc years ago. never driven one though. must be worth a few quid
Jay_harrier Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Good engines but I'm not who's left to tune them, these guys were a name in the late 80's & 90's http://www.avanti-motorsport.com
DaveC Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Guy Croft Racing were also well known for them
bmxdave Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 What are they like to fit in a mk1 cortina?
V8ian Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Funny thing, recently a mate of mine has just aquired Howles??[sp] ex Street Machine Eds car, Mk1 tina with a 160hp twink fitted, and another mate has just bought a Morris Van with a twink fitted, and both have wiped their cranks in the last month or so, and the 2 spare engines that they have both have the same problem,, Seems the oil pumps are not too good, also is further supported by the fact Fiat crank bearings are available in LOTS of undersizes. But the engines appear bullit proof, steel crank and rods, but they do weigh a fookin ton, I could not move one in my mates garage, I thought it was a trick engine, and been screwed to the floor
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I've had lots of fiat twin cams are they are bullit proof and sound the tits on dcoes , they fit nice in an anglia as well . Abarth strada 130TC engines are the ones too get and had 130 bhp with 130 ibls feet of torque in 1984 as standard . Fit an exhaust and k+n's to it and they hit 140 bhp no sweat but spend a few quid and they make more power no worries . Use a fiat 131 gearbox for rear wheel drive motors etc
Dom Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 Cool guys, any engine numbers or ID things that'll give me a better clue as to what they are?
