BaileyMex Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Had today off so thought what better way to spend it than tinkering in the garage and fitting my Minilites back on now they have been machined down with new Yokie's Fitted my old battery kill switch back in and re wired the earths in the boot for the battery Check oil..... bmxdave Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I must admit, i once forgot to put the cap on. Luckily i always put it in a place it wouldnt fall off if i did forget, just incase. I knew there was something id forgotten but carried on anyway then halfway to my mates i remembered. Thankfully it was still there
Kelvfoozinda Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I placed the capri's cap in the other day...smoked a bit, so i pulled over and found oil everywhere and the cap balanced in the engine mount!
mk1matt Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 the spoon lives deep with in the engine of the mex
BaileyMex Posted October 18, 2007 Author Report Posted October 18, 2007 the spoon lives deep with in the engine of the mex Fook me thats a blast from the past Well.......... Got home from the gatwick meet last night, and when I put it back in the garage I checked once more, no more oil splattered BUT...... I did notice that the engine oil catcher tank was FULL and the oil must of been being forced out threw the filter when I was giving it death on the motor way. Now the thing is, It never really seemed to fill up before, I swear last time I looked there was nothing in there, and now it's FULL!! Is there anything that can cause the engine to push more oil than normal up threw the block breather pipe?????
Fiesta Steve Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Sounds like you have a lot of windage in your crankcase. Is the sump baffled ?
BaileyMex Posted October 18, 2007 Author Report Posted October 18, 2007 Sounds like you have a lot of windage in your crankcase. Is the sump baffled ? sounds bad... the chap who built the engine did fit a modified & baffled sump

c1arke Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 i just thought Bailey u must be the only OSFer that brings there's out in the winter
BaileyMex Posted October 18, 2007 Author Report Posted October 18, 2007 i just thought Bailey u must be the only OSFer that brings there's out in the winter No mate there are loads of us
oliwally Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Check pcv valve if its fitted, might be blocked? where abouts is that ? side of the block, think on the old kent things its under the carbs. its for emission purposes, burns off the oil vapour. Have seen one with a hose that dangled lower than sump.....own wondered why he siezed the engine,it syphoned off the engine oil
BaileyMex Posted October 18, 2007 Author Report Posted October 18, 2007 I'll have a look at the weekend, but I dont recall any thing under the cabs except the block breather, junked the old black ford resivoir and fitted the alloy burton take off pipe straight to the catch tank
Fiesta Steve Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I'll have a look at the weekend, but I dont recall any thing under the cabs except the block breather, junked the old black ford resivoir and fitted the alloy burton take off pipe straight to the catch tank MIne would fill the catch tank on track days due to the oil surging. The crank would spin up the oil and throw it up the pipe. Are you sure you oil isn't surging. Have you ever had the oil pressure warning light come on when cornering/braking ?
