ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Just watching Scrapheap Challenge on More4 and there's just been final where they had to build a racecar to drive round Rockingham. One team chose a 2 litre pinto, and the other, a Nissan Bluebird Twincam lump. During a race round the track, the pinto started well, but the bluebird passed it and went on to win. I'm glad I was sat down because I've been led to believe that Pintos were unbeatable by modern engines, let alone a twincam.
oliwally Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 But thats cheating anyway, the bluebird uses a trouble bolted on the side....soory mean a turbo CA18DET was the last version of the CA engine to be released. It produces 173 hp (124 kW) and 166 ft·lbf (228 Nm).
oliwally Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 And thats verses.... Output in the Escort RS2000 was 82 kW (110 hp) and 161 N·m (119 ft·lbf).

Mr Sam Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 id still rather have a pinto.... besides pinto's are for staight lines not corners
Admin Vista Posted October 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted October 21, 2007 Contraversial but it's a fair cop Mr ZV sir
pauln Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Would you believe it I thought the pinto was unbeatable. I was told a 180bhp pinto was more powerful than any other 180bhp engine. Grinning behind hand aside I think the car design was the deciding factor.
OllieC Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 that pinto also looked pretty fooked and was it defintely a 2 litre ? i missed that bit
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 and was it defintely a 2 litre ? i missed that bit They said they were looking for a two litre at the beginning, and then when they found it in Jago kit car they said it was exactly what they were looking for.
over_head_cam Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 NO WAY They must have used electronic TV trickery
joker Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 hi mate you know about an unbeaten engine maybe ? forget about top fuel like john force do but sometimes he lose aswell
Rick Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 i hate scrapheap challenge, only in that scrapyard can you find brand new plane propellors still in the bag and other perfect items for whatever task theyre doin. theres only oily bangers in my scrapyards
emu Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 NO WAY They must have used electronic TV trickery They did, it wasnt really a pinto . I know it looked like it but kryten kept calling it a jeep engine so it cant have been
over_head_cam Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Could have been though. Those Jeepanese do like to emulate automotive design and add their own inscrutable style
escort new boy Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 probably a 1300 if it was id like the head please one went for £255 the other day
