stephens_xpack Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I do love a fat Capri. Those couple at the end the blue and white fat mk1's are they real or replicas? Either way they look the absolute dogs danglies! Good photo's.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Some nice capris there. What are the rules regarding customising cars over there? I'd heard (years ago) that you're not allowed to put an engine in the car that has larger cc than was in it when new. Or is that just a load of the round ones?
oldbus Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 Some nice capris there. What are the rules regarding customising cars over there? I'd heard (years ago) that you're not allowed to put an engine in the car that has larger cc than was in it when new. Or is that just a load of the round ones? No, unfortunately Mike you heard right. There are however ways around it, but i´m not going to put that here in writing. But to explain roughly... You might have seen that german Cars have different types of number plate..... Numberplates don´t stay with the cars like in the UK..they are given out by the local gouvernment (strassenvekehrsamt) and not only differ form town to town but there are several ways of registering your car. Here´s a normal one...(i know it´s not a Ford, but were´talking about numberplates! ) Here´s a normal one, limited for a few months only (normally summer..) On normal plates if you want to change or modify anything you either get a bit of paper (Gutachten)with the goodies when they are new (stating which model etc. etc.) or you go to the TÜV and ask if he´s happy with it....which they are normally not... This makes it nearly impossible if you´re driving any thing older because the majority of goodies (wheels/spoilers, springs etc) are second hand. If the engine you want to fit was never in that model then you need to get a seperate TÜV report (einzelabnahme) and this can cost thousands of pounds... Here´s a Historical Numberplate... the idea behind the historical Numberplate is that you can save roadtax. The roadtax over here is basen on emissions, but not for Classics. If your car is in original condition, then you can have the cars registered on a H plate. Insurance is cheaper too, normally on a limited mileage policy you´d have to prove that you have a daily runner though. Heres my 07 Oldtimer changeover numberplate Now this is where it gets interesting. The red 07 Numberplate is designed for people who have several classics. One numberplate for up to ten cars, They must be 30 years old and when registered in original condition. (same as for the H Plate) You have to fill in an book where you make a note of every journey, but they don´t have to go to the TÜV every two years. That´s why my van is no longer on the H plate but on a 07.... If i´d have kept it on it´s H plate and fitted the V6 the TÜV would never have given it´s ok..... basically it means that most of us are risking it a bit, because if the police stop you your in the shit!!

V8ian Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I have also heard of modified cars being built and exported back into europe after being modified, its somehow meant to get around the TUV laws
oldbus Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 I have also heard of modified cars being built and exported back into europe after being modified, its somehow meant to get around the TUV laws probably the paperwork was the only thing that was exported

Definately organisable!!!! What comes out good on photos isn´t always worth the drive (especially from the UK.) The OSF Ford scene is not very big over here. The Bielefeld meet is crap, but because it´s only 30 mins down the road we go and make the most of it and try to ignore the hillbilly music!!! The Capri meet i only popped in for a quick visit as it was the local hillcliming event and i didn´t have much time. Will take a closer look next year... The hillclimbing is definately worth a visit, loads of great 60´s and 70´s metal, being screwed up a mountain....(not just Fords but who cares ) If you fancy a trip over i´d recommend the Classic car meet in Lobbach, near Heidelberg. Fantastic weekend, we always go Friday evening and stay the whole weekend. Camping, showers on site. BBQs allowed - Food and beer on site or bring your own. Great bunch of lads (they even gave us "best of show " for the van last year) Used to be a Ford only meet but has diversified out the last few years and gets better every year... One of the good things about it is that there are two massive museums really close and they´re well worth the visit on their own. http://www.technik-museum.de/ I´d be more than happy to organise this end of things if a few of you feel like coming over. Don´t have the dates for 2008 but it was end of July this year... http://www.oldtimerfreunde-lobbachtal.de/
Admin Vista Posted November 20, 2007 Admin Report Posted November 20, 2007 Nice photos and some lovely cars. Re the complications with your modding scene I believe switzerland is even worse. They run into problems with MOT style inspectors if they do something as simple as swapping the brake hoses for braided ones! Sod trying to build a good modded OSF there! Oh and in your last photo, is that Concordski in the middle with the cannards by the cockpit?
oldbus Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 Nice photos and some lovely cars. Oh and in your last photo, is that Concordski in the middle with the cannards by the cockpit? Yep, thats the Technik Museum in Sisheim. They not only have the Concorski but Concorde too. You can actually climb up into them and go all the way through up to the cockpits. Fantastic day out, i´ll start a thread with some of the photos we took this summer!
