i have a 2.1 pinto engined capri, i used to have a 2.0 with a fr32 cam and a couple of other mods, which would outrun the 2.8i cappers and use less fuel at the same time, pretty decent engines pull very well and are cheap to tune, cant go wrong with a nice pinto IMO

I've had all types & currently run a tuned Pinto one.

My thoughts are - If it's a daily driver I would have a 3.0s, If its a weekend warrior around town then a pinto. Would only have another 2.8i if I wanted a weekend car that I could use to travel long distances in. (5th gear)

Hi Guys What is the best capri to buy. I already have a Cortina 1600e and are looking to add a capri to that . I want Mark 2 or 3. Anyone own one that could give advice. Cheers Dave

The best capri to buy that is currently on the market has to be this one, they don't come much rarer than a white mk2 JPS, it's mint as well

It all depends what you want it for and your budget :D

Every day car i'd go for a 2.0 MK3 (the later ones have a 5-speed g'box)

For all out grunt and fun it would have to be a 3.0 MK2 or 3, personaly i'd prefer an S rather than the Ghia (soft and wobbly) in which case the MK3 is easier to find.

If you want something rare thats stands out from the crowd then its got to be a MK2, GT's a fairly rare as are the S's but the JPS stands out just that little bit more (Cheers to vista for the plug on my one thats for sale :wink: )

2.8i Special, i must admit mine was abit of a basket case when i bought it but ive had the most fun in it.

Plus with the Special you get the helf leather Recaro's and the rear windows open etc.

saying that i am currently putting something slightly bigger in the engine bay, the 2.8i is wicked fun!

To me the best capri is a turbo technics 2.8, if you can find one, I had a 2.8 special with the 200 bhp conversion, you could drive it around just like a std 2.8 but when you felt like some fun it went like stink, It did about the same mpg as a std 2.8.

You didn't state what you want to use the car for..

If you're lookin for a daily driver, I'd probably go for a 80/81 2.0S

In my opinion this was the best year for the 'S' model due to it still having a 4-speed box. These are far more agile through the gears than the later sluggy 5-speed. Also they came fitted with fishnet Recaro's for those two years. All in all, quite a sporty car unlike the later 'S' and Laser models which seemed to have a softer image(around the time that Ford went all sensible) Stick on a set of 7 inch pepperpots to square up the handling and looks and off ya go!

If it has to be a 2.8i again the earlier 4-speed ones seem a little more agile and have a wicked interior. If it's a 5-speeder, bung in a diff from a 2.0 model to liven it up

I`d spend time looking pictures and at other peoples Capris and choose you favourite over a period of time. We can all give our own somewhat biased (Mk2 3.0S cough cough) opinions but at the end of the day it has to be your choice sat on the drive.

Welcome to the 2.8i club  I've only ever owned a 2.8 the one I have now. Had it 6 years now and I can't see me ever getting rid...
