grizz Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Hi all, Seems like a good day to say hallo. Some of you may know me from a few Motorbike websites, or retro-rides which is where I have been spending a disproportionate part of my time the last year or so. I am 44 now, 45 in January, and have always had an unhealthy interest in things automotive. After a few years in the millitary, South Africa, my dad motivated me to go nursing, which lasted about 8 years, and set me up for the job I have been at the last 16 years..... Drug dealer I am a drug rep, and have lived in the UK for the last 5 1/2 years. I have riden bikes since age 14, and currently only have a BMW R1150GS and F650 Dakar in my garage. Car wise, I have always kept a reliable daily, but had a bit on the side. These include a '63 VW Beetle, 67 Ford Anglia 1200Super, '59 VW Beetle and currently I have a 1977 Audi 80 GLS Estate, in my garage, which is one of only two in right hand drive we have been able to trace..... (do I hear "RARE" ? ) I have tentatively sold the Audi to a collector, who will be doing it all the justice it deserves. I am in the process of getting a new project, which should be with me for a long time. The new project is being kept "secret" with a few people in the "Inner Circle" as these things have a way of sometimes not happening, due to various variables. I was pointed here by "OLDBUS" Dave, from Germany, as the new car will be of the Ford variety. I trust I will be able to learn loads from all of you here, as I have from the guys on Retro - Rides. Cheers, Rian.
Burns Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 welcome to osf bud when you hit the 1 week/10 posts mark get some photos up
grizz Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 Thanks all, Oldbus told me about the 10 post one week limit, great I dea IMHO. Won't post much in the way of pics till the car lands in the UK. (Yes its an import) Just been to South Africa for 2 weeks to "bury" my mum and dad, who died 11 years ago and March this year respectively. Both were cremated and my brother and I thought it wise to take them to the family farm when we could both be there at the same time. To illustrate the seriousness of it to us as a family, (we celebrate life, rather than mourning death) I wore a perfect black T-shirt from Primark stating "GAME OVER - insert coin" Some may not agree, but mum and dad would approve. Anyway, I posted a 400+ pic thread on Retro-rides general forums on retro cars in SA and some stuff that I found for sale. If you want pics of the sump of my car, I can post that. Not much more for now. Watch this space as I said.
oldbus Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Welcome aboard mate, about bloody time too! Look forward to seeing that osf sized space in your garage getting filled
grizz Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 Welcome aboard mate, about bloody time too! Look forward to seeing that osf sized space in your garage getting filled LOLZeratti !!!! Need to get the thing of the ship first Thanks Dave. Have to say, I think you have one of the coolest, not following the crowd type of rides. REPESCT !!!!! I hope that my future ride will be worthy of these and other pages.
grizz Posted December 1, 2007 Author Report Posted December 1, 2007 Just hoping someone here has more info. I am in the process of buying a car, that comes with spare wheels, engine etc.... I do not want all the stuff in my garage for obvious reasons. In SA, there is a company called PX freight, and they have 1/5 th containers that are waterproof, does that exist in the UK, or what alternatives are there to wooden and plastic sheds from B&Q ?? I need about 4 x 6 foot in size.
kevs mk3 Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 hi and welcome to osf, you would need to contact a shipping company or go to your nearest scrap yard, they get alsorts taken to them
grizz Posted December 2, 2007 Author Report Posted December 2, 2007 hi and welcome to osf, you would need to contact a shipping company or go to your nearest scrap yard, they get alsorts taken to them Thanks, Got a few referals to shed companies, but scrappies are a good option. Storage is just that, needs to be dry and secure, not beautifull.
