Anyone been on Northampton motorsports dyno then ?

I went there the week before.Made 119 bhp / 117 lb ft at Northampton

and 109bhp / 108 lb ft at TOTD :thumbsup:

nice one russ , top man , so that's about the same as Sanspeed and Track n Road then :thumbsup:

Gaz - give me some credit you little stirer! I can do some basic maths :mrgreen:

:lol::lol::lol: I know you can add up 5+5 and get 10 but you'll never understand the workings of the Sanspeed "earthquake" dyno graphs :lol::lol::lol: . So did you work it out at 190 bhp then or is Pete's "biro" bhp calculation on the righthand side of the sheet saying it's 190 bhp ? I'm just interested that's all and it will not affect my love for you and your car in anyway !!!!!! :gayfight::cheers2:

I'm glad I can still expect some man love from you :wink: , to keep you happy I have dug out my graphs from ELEVEN experiences from Sanspeed. :thumbsup:

I am disapointed to report they are all FAKES :shock:

He hasn't written the power figure on even ONE of them!! :sad:

We did use his convertion table but as soon as you know 1kw is 1.36hp you don't need Peter, except to add value to the graphs :mrgreen:

Quite interesting reading non-the-less.

I started with a Burton head 254 cam and 125 BHP at the wheels :P

The engine evolved with various changes of cams, my own CNC head, increase in capacity, bigger carbs, different exhaust manifold etc etc, 8)

My 1/4 mile times have reduced from 15.25 to 12.67. 8)

It now makes 135 BHP at the wheels on TOTD!! :shock:

Aaaaah i see now , it's un-officaillly 190 bhp then !!!!!! :lol::lol::lol:

but your 125 at the wheels was not on my dyno toby!, i absolutely love your car and think its awesome performance for a pre crosser, the 1/4 mile times are fantastic too!

the standard pinto still made 102 bhp :mrgreen:

god, can't believe the dyno day was only a week ago!

:thumbsup: No I know mate, I was just continuing the saga!!

Love your sign off!! :lol::lol::thumbsup:

I wonder if Sanspeeds has been slipping upwards, and maybe recently been put straight.

I would imagine that a 1760 pre-cross, with Burtons "best head" on 40's and a 254 would make about 125 + 17.77% = 147 fly wheel though (give or take 5 hp) so the start figure seems about right in my mind. :thumbsup:

The kent cams book puts a 244 at 140 hp in a crossflow. Could all be bo!!ox! Certainly would help cam sales!

Kerimes 1700 x-flow has a 244 cam and it made 136 bhp at Sanspeed last year so that cam books about right then mate :thumbsup:

what we need is some of these so called big bhp turbo motors to run on a few different dynos to see what happens . So far all these 500+ bhp turbo engines struggle to get anywhere near 400bhp on Torque of the Devils dyno . It may be easier elsewhere though as everyones got at least a 400 bhp turbo :roll: (210ish bhp when standard). A bit like everyones got a standard XE with carbs that makes 200 bhp :roll: (150ish bhp when standard) and a standard zetec with carbs thats got 180 bhp :roll: (130ish bhp when standard) or a standard Duratec with cams that's got 260 bhp :roll::roll::roll: (140 bhp when standard) . If only it was that easy , life would be great wouldn't it ? :mrgreen:

:lol::lol: 250 N/A YB's

Exactly my point Toby . My engine made 262 "peak" bhp in the other car on another dyno with a 4 into 1 manifold and single box exhaust system . I reckon now it will maybe hit around 220ish bhp at Torque of the Devil when it's fully set up but 240-250 bhp elsewhere though :thumbsup:

on a more constructive note, im not sure why people get tied up over 10bhp differences when they accept that even the same engine/car on the same dyno on a different day can often vary by this amount :beer:

As you get nearer the limit of the available power EACH 1 hp is getting more and more expensive so it's like seeing hundreds of pounds disapearing in front of your eyes!! :roll::roll::lol:

I have heard of certain new cars leaving the factory with overstated power claims, then reputable tuning companies improving them but seeing less on the dyno than they "left the factory" with!! But cos they never had it in the first place.

I've got a 4-2-1 and a twin box system, I had a feeling it was being choked...... :lol:

What do you recon this is costing in power then? :mrgreen:

Posted

Yes costing power but only "peak" (impresss people down the pub) bhp though mate . That type of power is good for selling engines though but no good when driving about .

No mate , going for a curry with the Mrs :roll: . I'm going to try a single box exhaust on mine (well chop the middle box out of mine) and see how noisey it is and if the power goes up or down :thumbsup:

Me too with some of her mates too. :roll: . I used to have a single box system when I had an exhaust manifold that was collected all wrong. I recon it cost 2-3 hp. It was loud though! Still is with 2 :lol::lol:

Worth a try then i reckon as i'm nosey . I'm gettting one of those big valve heads next year as well so it may get another 30 bhp or so hopefully . So about 240-250 bhp at Torque of the Devil and 300 bhp elsewhere or on an engine dyno maybe 8)

It's a nice idea :wink:

Well a 2 litre engines a 2 litre engine so without a head fitted they all the flow/consume the same ammount of air (4 pistons in 4 holes) . They only differ once you bolt a head on it ( pinto , YB , Zetec , duratec etc etc ) so a head that flows the most air will make the most power within reason :thumbsup: . A big valve YB head flows more air than a race duratec head so let's get one and find out :mrgreen:
