-J- Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Serious lack of power, RAC man said it was electrical issue with the Dizzy so replaced that, same issue still Checked the Compression this morning. Got low Comp on number 3 and high Pressure running through coolent hoses Replacing Head Gaskets / Engines is beyond my ability's so looks like we might just have to weigh the car in as scrap.
zetecmk2 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 if youre gonna scrap it (which you wont)! why not try and do head gasket first? get a cheap pattern one and we are here for tech support. a good oppertunity to learn id say!
old skool freestyler Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 where are you mate dont scrap it if you want rid ill take it of your hands
-J- Posted December 30, 2007 Author Report Posted December 30, 2007 Unfortunately dont really have the time to try and work it out... It was a daily driver and with a new job starting on 2nd Jan i think Money for repairs will have to go on getting a car to get to and from work. Might give it 1 last chance with a local Mechanic to get the full low down but if its expensive then think thats that - car was only £300 quid in the 1st place.... where is the line drawn to stop chucking money at it
Admin Vista Posted December 30, 2007 Admin Report Posted December 30, 2007 It looks from that limited pic to be a sound car mate. If you don't want it or don't have the time / money to fix it then offer it to someone on here for scrap value rather than weighing it in. There are plenty of Fez lovers that would be able to fix it themselves and another one gets saved
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I'll take it off your hands before you scrap it. So will about a dozen of us on here. So before you decide to weigh it in, tell us so we can buy it from you!
-J- Posted December 30, 2007 Author Report Posted December 30, 2007 PM Replied to. Not making any decisions as yet what to do.... going to have it diagnosed properly 1st. If its dead and costly to repair will bung it up forsale as a whole car or as parts. Pity not to fix it as the shell is fairly solid bar one poorly welded in rear arch thats split its welds. Will have to see.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 There's a new rule you have to adhere to when selling cars on OSF. You have to PM the bald people first (me, for example) to let them know you're selling it.

ocean wasp Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Checked the Compression this morning. Got low Comp on number 3 and high Pressure running through coolent hoses Replacing Head Gaskets / Engines is beyond my ability's so looks like we might just have to weigh the car in as scrap. If you have the ability to do a compression test then you can change the headgasket. Believe in yourself. From what you said it does sound like the headgasket, and if its a small crossflow in there it'll cost you less than £20 to do including new antifreeze so its worth a try. Get a Haynes manual. Theres a chap on ebay who sells good quality pattern gaskets, you can get a complete top end kit for £15, think he trades as gaskets for classics. It'll take you a while on your first attempt but stick with it, when you do another it'll be a couple of hours of a job.
Tom Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I too would have it off you mate, i need another daily driver

The car has been kicking me in the Nuts since i got it with little niggly running issues and now this! Really i just want to confirm what the issue is before i chuck more cash at it! Failing that I could always Bin the Engine (Yes its a diddy 1.1 X flow) and fit Pedals.

w p e Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 2 hours work on a bad day so get the spanners out this is your innisiasion to the real world of OSF its a doddle
emu Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 There isnt much else it can be if you have pressure in hoses. If you pop down your local factors tomorrow then they'll probably have a headgasket on the shelf. It'll cost you about 10-15 quid. The headgasket on a fiesta engine is about the most basic you could start with. Take off the rocker cover ( 4 bots/screws) Unbolt the rocker shaft (4 bolts) Lift out the pushrods (keep them in order ) Undo the exhaust manifold from the down pipe (2 bolts on a 1.1??) Disconnect the top hose from the thermostat housing, throttle cable and fuel line. (2 or 3 hoseclips) Undo the headbolts, again keep them in order. (10 of these) Lift the head off. Make sure both the headface and the block face are squeaky clean. Position new gasket Position head carefully. Refit everything else in reverse And torque everything up properly, especially the headbolts Refill coolant. 12 simple steps, headgasket done
old skool freestyler Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 should really get the head pressure tested for cracks and have it skimmed to make sure its still dead flat, ivor seals are really good we always use them at work
