richie_stix Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 hi everyone slowly workin on a mean ass rat look for the old cappa but i was havin trouble findin a way to raise the rear end of the bonnet. i've seen loads of race and rally escorts with this mod done as it is a great way to aid engine cooling under hard loads, but not only that but it looks the absolute dogs hairy spheres! bein broke and tight means that i want to do this without any major purchases and wondered if anyone had done this to their capris (or escorts) and had anytips on how this can be achieved? cheers rich
james p Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 put spacers under the bonnet bolts (pref with longer bolts ) cheapo bit of old pipe will do it
richie_stix Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 not sure how that would work on a capri, can you explain a little more? also, do i need bonnet pins to hold the bonnet shut with the new angle?
Danmex Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Cut some pipe to the height you want raise the bonnet by, the get some longer bolts and use the pipe as sleives over the bolts between the bonnet and the hinge bracket. Job done, depending how high you go you might get away without pins but probs best to fit them anyway
capriluke Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 (i think) capri bonnets bolt on sideways not upwards like escorts! pipe/spacers will not work. maybe elongating the back holes and lift the bonnet up ad tighten(with big washers!!)
hotrodholty Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 if thet do mount on the side just make some plates with matching holes for the bonnet at the top and the hinge at the bottom. if that makes sense
Toby Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 if thet do mount on the side just make some plates with matching holes for the bonnet at the top and the hinge at the bottom. if that makes sense Yeah and then lower the car leavingthe bonnet where it was but creating a gap!!
Messenjah Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 m8 theres loads of scope for adjustment on the capri bonnets anyway all u ned to do is slacken them off a bit u want it to be tight but so u can still force it around and then close ther bonnet and lever the back up open it gently and tighten back up tight again !
richie_stix Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 cheers guys, that thing bout the pipe was confusin cos they do bolt sideways... but as someone said, a bit of metal plate drilled should do the trick. tries to do it when i took the bonnet off for an engine transplant but i couldn;t line it up when it was raised so i left well alone... it was hard enough lining the bastard up normally let alone raisin it!
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 It won't do anything though except let a bit of heat escape when parked up . It won't cool anything when the cars moving because of air pressure differences at the windscreen area . If you like the look then do it but having a bonent that looks like it don't fit is an aquired taste
Messenjah Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 lol gaz it is an aquired taste all right but i share it on a satin black cappa looks the nuts !
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Just chop holes in the bonnet mate as this looks better than panels that don't fit . What about one of those Yankie hot rod style bonnet bulges that starts at the front bonnet edge and runs all the way back to the windscreen base (if you know what i mean) they look mean and moody
Messenjah Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 gaz trust u to come up with an ott stupidly expensive option to acheive nothing and if ure nto carefull ill drill holes in ure bonnnet
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Get the bad boy bonnet bulge in glassfibre , stick it on , spray satin black with can and then frighten the locals with tales of 8 litres of detroit muscle car power under the hood
Messenjah Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 are u a fan of ure car being all show no go then gaz thts what ive heard ...
hotrodholty Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 cowl induction scoop is what your on about [/img]
richie_stix Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 blimey, this threads gone nuts....... i know what your sayin bout the muscle car style, when my numbers come up for shizzle thats what i'll do but till then, as mr messenjah says, its an aquired taste but on a satin black capri.... i mainly want it for the look, infact fook it just for the look, my engine runs fine, probably under temp in the winter! but it's all about the pennies really, and i need it for beer!
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 cowl induction scoop is what your on about [/img] That's the one just need the 800 bhp big block next then
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 are u a fan of ure car being all show no go then gaz thts what ive heard ... Show and go you mean , free-reving instant 180 bhp at the wheels and only a normal Escort to push = Rapid
QuadCamCapri Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 If you slot the holes on the bonnet & brackets you can get it about an 1" higher no problem. It will let some heat out whilst stationary, and when moving at speed it will draw cold air in as the scuttle is a high pressure area and the engine bay a low one.
