Shit. We'd better be careful

Josh sez, "The folks at BMC (Black Mustang Club) automotive forum wanted to put together a calendar featuring members' cars, and print it through CafePress. Photos were submitted, the layout was set, and... CafePress notifies the site admin that pictures of Ford cars cannot be printed. Not just Ford logos, not just Mustang logos, the car -as a whole- is a Ford trademark and its image can't be reproduced without permission. So even though Ford has a lineup of enthusiasts who want to show off their Ford cars, the company is bent on alienating them. 'Them' being some of the most loyal owners and future buyers that they have. Or rather, that they had, because many have decided that they will not be doing business with Ford again if this matter isn't resolved."

If ford want to own the copyright to anything to do with my car then perhaps they my like to send a faithful employee to come scrape the horrid underseal off the bottom of it for me

Surely they can't get away with that, how would magazines get away with printing pictures :? Or would we be in breach of copyright posting pics on here.

Now that's just silly...........

I bet ford don't stop calendars being made

if they went to another printer like ours

they would be able to get them printed

Retro Ford Calendar last year printed no problems

P'S' RETROFORD didn't you remember to print one this year

I was contated by CafePress too, on behalf of FMC (US) , threatening to sue of the the whole merchandise shop I was running on behalf of a Ford related forum was not closed. They disable pics for use on the merchandise they don't agree with, on closer inspection I found they disabled the whole lot, even ones of transit vans barely showing the Ford badge. It's the actions of a Rabid attorney engaged by FMC to prevent copywrite infringements.

They have really gone over board though, some small shops using the blue oval or car/van images on merchandise and selling for a living have been forced out of business. I can't think why the press haven't got hold of it, it would be very bad press for Ford, and the fan sites are good free publicity for them too.

The whole point about CafePress is you don't have to print up anything, it's done to order so you don't end up stuck with stuff you can't sell you have paid for. But it's hosted in the USA and that l;eaves them open to these stupid legal actions.

is the problem about copyright because they are current name and image from ford range

No it looks as if the ford emblem was being used as a marketting tool, perhaps for the calendar??

Looks like a lot of hype from a misunderstanding!! - Shame - no free wings and parts then!!:lol::lol::lol:

Extract from Black Mustang Club response to the bad press -

My name is Whitney Drake and I work in Ford Communications.

We've been watching this discussion with interest and I'd like to

clarify what is essentially a misunderstanding.

Yesterday we spoke to both Cafe Press and the Black Mustang Club

and explained the situation (about the Black Mustang Club’s calendar) to everyone's satisfaction. Ford has no problem with Mustang or other car owners taking pictures of their vehicles for use in club materials like calendars. What we do have an issue with are individuals using Ford’s logo and other trademarks for products they intend to sell. Understandably, we have to take the protection of our brands and licensing very seriously.

Ford did not send the Black Mustang Club a “cease and desist” letter telling them that they could not use images of their own cars in their calendar. The decision not to allow the calendars to be printed was made by Cafe Press, because we had gotten in touch with them in the past about trademark infringements on products they sold.

The Black Mustang Club, and any other Ford enthusiast club, are free to take pictures of their own vehicles for use in calendars or other materials as long as they don't use Ford trademarks in products that will be sold.

I think it is great that the Black Mustang Club, and any other enthusiast club, would take pictures of their own vehicles for use in calendars or other materials.

I'm looking forward to purchasing a copy to hang in the garage next

to my Mustang (even if mine isn't black).

Thanks for giving us the chance to have our say.

How is he going to do that then, as Ford have threatened them with legal action, via Cafe Press, and made Cafe Press stop using the images. All of the pics in the Cafe Press account had been disabled, not just those with a clear Ford blue oval.

they ,ford, should put more time into trying to produce some decent cars, instead of the dull shit we have been getting for a while, and it's about time they sorted out their useless spares department, nevermind the old stuff, they show no interest in at all despite the massive following, unlike other s like rover/triumph,but cars only a few years old are very hard to find parts for.:evil::evil:
