lee_capri Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 breaking osf's should it be done or would you consider it to be a hanging mater, has i was just woudering,i my self dont care if some one break's a car up has the part's get passed on,what do you guy's think
RFChris Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 If it's beyond economical repair, yeah. But if it's being broken for no other reason than to profit (ie, it was a good car) then no, take them to the gallows.
Cookie Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Don't matter to me either way to be honest, but I'd rather see a decent osf being broken for the decent bits to keep another one on the rd than see one being battered around the banger track for an hours worth of 'fun'.
Copey Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 If it's beyond economical repair, yeah. But if it's being broken for no other reason than to profit (ie, it was a good car) then no, take them to the gallows. spot on!
bortaf Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 I've been breaking old fords for 20 pluss years, if anyone thinks i'm stopping just because they have just got into the scene and think the cars are too valuble to break they can kiss my fat hairy arse ! No offence ment of course but why should i change my living cos somone who's been only been into the scene since it's been "cool" doesn't like what i do. Just the other side of the coin NOT a jibe at ANYONE Oh and just to really put myself up for even more abuse i sell all my stripped shells to banger racers, that way they don't go to waist

I personally whenever I come across something old/desirable/rare I'll always try and sell it complete to an enthusiast, Had a mk1 golf caddy the other week and sold it to a bloke who wanted a project, could of cleared another 200-300 notes breaking it easy, especially with the scrap price but it saved me getting my hands dirty and made another car nut a happy man. Trouble is you have these cars and everyone wants it and preaches you should'nt break it up, but they rarely put there money where there mouth is and actually stump up the cash to buy it! Hey-ho, thats life as they say
FredTransit Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 what about this then What about that? If the date on the pic is right, that was 5 years ago, what does it look like now? I don't like people breaking perfectly good cars just for profit, but I suppose some have to die so others have to live. I've seen off a few Mk2 transits myself, but would find it harder to today.
lee_capri Posted January 19, 2008 Author Report Posted January 19, 2008 that was taken about 6 month's back, you no what these camera's are like and it still look's the same,i dont see this one about profit but their is nothing wroung with makeing profit, has we all have to eat
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Spose if no one wants to stump up the notes n you want rid then thats the way. If i had the money would love it but i'm guessing you hear that alot hence the cutting up I'm shaw if i ever do have the money i'll be able to find another one or build myself a V8.

lee_capri Posted January 19, 2008 Author Report Posted January 19, 2008 it's more funn to build your own then what it is to buy somethink like this one,has you would be able to take pride in it this is just anouther mk3 capri to me nothing special
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 true but then i did that with mine but took me 6months of work in a open car park which i had to drive too as i moved So is also good get something thats had stuff done that you can carry on with if you see what i mean. Have you tried it on flea bay. if you've got a price in mind set the reserve n see if it goes, easy money n you don't get your hand dirty
bortaf Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 TBH i allways offer the complete car on the appropriat forum first then ebay, most people will happily buy a cheap part as long as they don't have to know where it came from I often have to source parts from banger racers and then sell them to people who apparently don't agree with banger racing but will happly take parts from cars going to be raced, don't bother me TBH i find it funny in an ironic way in fact i get quite a kick out of it but then i find irony funny I do feel gutted when i see one in the frag yard, compleat and just crushed but being perfectly honisy it's "i could have made a few quid on that" 1st and "shame that could have gone again" 2nd BUT if i make money AND get it back on the road or passed on to somone who will i get the best buzz of all. Over the years i've broken around 200 cortina's (mostly), escorts, granadas capris ect and saved about 50, if i hadn't got to them all 250 would be gone
kev16v Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 ive broke up many many oldskool cars some were good some were bad its up to u if u think its right u own it
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 The end of the day bits have got to come from somewhere n if only really rotten stuff was broken where would the cheap stuff come from for poor people (like me ) to keep there ever increasingly expensive cars on the road????
bortaf Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 The really anoying thing is more old cars get crushed by the council than anyone i know could race/break in a life time Of course some of it gets "sidelined" but that's getting harder and harder, thats why the banger boys are having to pay more for old tin
toad650 Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 another way the govenment can make money and push paper!!!!!

Would it hurt to sell bits off tow ins, not to mention the whole thing.....
andy a Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 I've been breaking old fords for 20 pluss years, if anyone thinks i'm stopping just because they have just got into the scene and think the cars are too valuble to break they can kiss my fat hairy arse ! No offence ment of course but why should i change my living cos somone who's been only been into the scene since it's been "cool" doesn't like what i do. Just the other side of the coin NOT a jibe at ANYONE Thats about how I see it, I've had a few come through that would've gone again with a bit of time spent, 2 Mk2 3.0s in the last year, a very early 2.8 needing some panels and a bit of paint and a couple of others, all have been advertised and I had time wasters on the lot of them, I locked a couple away as I couldn't see them broken but the rest had to go as I didn't have time or room. I started driving round in Fords when I was 17 because I could buy them cheap, its only since they became "trendy" and their values gone up that anyone has really bothered what happens with them, as long as people keep buying parts they will keep getting broken, if people dont want the parts they will end up being scrapped as they are, thats how it works, simple as. What annoys me more than anything is when you see concours cars brought up by the rally boys and thrown down a country lane, if the shell gets knackered then they get a reshell, into another good car, but the people who sell them the cars in the first place do so because they will pay good money for them, again, supply and demand. But if it's being broken for no other reason than to profit (ie, it was a good car) then no, take them to the gallows. The same could be said for those who stick v******l lumps in them or non period engines in them, or pull the interior to make room for a pair of Sparco's
MR "S" Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 I AGREE WITH RFCHRIS..IT MAKES ME IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MOTOR........
pauln Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Since the steering suspension and back axle on my cortina is ex capri I have to be in favour of breaking osfs. But I hope the parts came off cars that were beyond repair. Who's car here is running without the aid of doner parts?
james p Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 aint nothing wrong with breaking them as long as you remove all you can so its worth while ,my car is made of parts from outher cars
