RFChris Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I'm gonna be given my mother inlaws escort Si in march, mainly because its fooked. The body gave up the ghost a long time ago as Perry and Bigkev can confirm! Now, i'm going to rape it of its rather nice seats and stuff, but what i was wondering was if anyone knew if it would be difficult to fit the 1600i Zetec into the Prefect? I was lead to believe the bottom end is similar to the CVH lump, si it should go in.....maybe? Anyone got any pointers? I neeeeeds 16v injected power! Chris
BaileyMex Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I think if you RE fit the rear Axle, diff, prop and turn it back to the right way it'll be fine
LUKE261 Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 im not sure mate but think your bout rite chris, you hear a lot of rs turbos using zetec bottom ends dont ya so i would have thought that it should mount the same, the only thing that would bugger me if i were doin it would be the wiring loom!!! id go for it mate have a go.

Mark2Mark Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 I had a sereis 1 RST before the 'box, and that had an 1800 ZVH which as LUKE261 says uses the zetec block and bottom end and that bolted onto the CVH mounts so it should go in ok
Wessie Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 1600i zetec sounds cool but RWD sounds even better YKT
Mr Sam Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 2.0 pinto the right way round cant be that difficult plenty of zetecs in xr2's and if the prefects all set up with xr2 gear no reason why the zetec shouldnt slot in with not to much hassel why not put twin 40's on the cvh?
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Chris, I used to work next to H.T Racing when I had my first Capri & I was always in there having a chat and a perve at some of their work. (In my lunch hour of course ) If I remember rightly, they pioneered the "ZVH" conversion for Mk3/4 Escorts & Fiesta's. They told me all about this conversion. What the other lads have said is correct, you can fit a CVH head onto a Zetec block. The block will fit onto your mountings, but not sure if this will apply to you as it is a Prefect, but in Escort's & Fiesta's, there are some minor parts that need fabrication. One thing that springs to mind is an alternator bracket. Anything that you may come across will only be minor, but you are using the complete engine, so shouldnt be a problem. You will obviously have to wire up the engine managment system, and make sure you have a fuel return plumbed into the tank. Sounds like a top plan mate, GO FOR IT & keep me posted
Mark2Mark Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 On mine as far is i can remember the only things that were any different were the water pump (1300 cvh) and the down pipe needed to be tweeked to clear the larger alloy sump, and the dipstick and tube were in a different place. but if you are fitting the lot then this is irrelevant
Fiesta Steve Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 The cvh engine mount and alternator mount will bolt straight on to the zetec block. But it seems like a lot of hastle for an engine that will be slower than what you have already got. As much as I hate to say it, a well built CVH will piss all over a x-flow !

Fiesta Steve Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Give the CVH a good service Job done!
Mr Sam Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 this might sound rather stupid........swap the heads the zetec was only a 1600 so whats wrong with the CVH 1600 if you really want 16 valves just switch the heads, has to be the siplist

Having owned many cars with both engines I can honestly say the CVH's have been the most reliable. And as for econemy, I can see I've ever noticed a difference between the two. Certanly not enough difference to do a full on engine conversion. Just don't want you to waste your time and money m8, i'd stick with the CVH
