X FLOW EDDY Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I have sey aside £1000 to get my mk2 escort done inside and out but i have a mate in the trade who is going to prep it as much as poss before hand so the paint shop just have to finish it as they want it and paint it. The more you can do before is goes to the paint shop the better, its time that costs the most money !!!!!!!!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 I had a top notch respray done on my old mk2 rs2000 in 1987 and it cost £1500 back then . Had tons of resprays done over the years and the less dents/rust and the more bits you strip and bare metal yourself the cheaper they are . Decent paint and materials can cost £500 on their own though
Rick Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 depends you can get a kosovan to do it on an industrial estate for couple hundred. or in a proper paintshop for thousands. you want someone that you have been recommended really as iv heard of 'pros' knocking out crap jobs whoever painted rich savs car did a good job if you ask me. personally im too tight to pay anyone so i had a go myself.
Fiesta Steve Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Its not what you know, but who you know Surely its what you know as well. If you didn't know what you thought you knew you wouldn't know who you thought you knew in the first place
xpackken Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 boy am i glad to work in a body shop . thats prob the reason i got into it in the first place . my respray is costing me around the 350 mark paint and laq but tbh thats the expesive stuff . _________________ Mercedes W201

sambo Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 150 quid think i over priced it. [/img] You want to spray mine....? I'll give you £200 just to show my appreciation! Trouble is, is that the paint job i want is 2-tone so could be a little more pricey. I've been quoted £2000 for a re-spray but £3000 + for a bare metal job. The car has fibre glass wings, bonnet and boot so there is'nt much metal on the car anyway!! God this car is getting expensive!!
H.P.E harry Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 id expect to pay at least £1500 for a decent job , dont forget you get what you pay for! Thats exactly how much jezz charged me, inside and out. Pretty good job too.
FlashCadillac Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 been quoted £1200 for the capri doing (mates rates) but all the prep has to be done when he gets it
radar tech Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 £60 for paint and a bottle of jack daniels
Rick Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 problem with the self prep jobs is i bet most of them wouldnt tell you your prepping is shit and take your money and spray it anyway. a good painter wouldnt take on a job if he thought the result would be poor. if you want the best job you gotta pay for the hours of prep work, unless your good at it yourself

Rick Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 if anything bare metalling makes for more bodywork, i made that mistake myself but at least youl know what lies beneath whether it be unspoiled panels or an inch thick of filler.
zetecmk2 Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 my mate sean did mine for nothing....i took his engine out while he did it for nothing!!! thats what mates are for!

deluxemk1 Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Ok top top tip let us pros do the prep unless youve done it several times before. It actually can cause more work for a painter if you flat good sound paint with the wrong grit papers etc although having said that your avarage old skool ford will probably need 2 pack priming all over the outer shell at least.I estimate most repaints including engine bay at 2200 to 2500. A decent repaint in a booth with good materials will be 1800 to 2000 pounds.Reason being its a weeks work for one man really to get nice most workshops will be 20 pounds and hour which is good when you see that a main dealer warranty on machanical charges at 40 pound per hour! That 2 grand breaks down easily at 20 per hour allow 900 to a grand for the guy to take his normal 100 pound a day wage then have 400 quid to keep the upkeep on his shop which if its like mine it cost me over 40 grand to get going anyway!600 quid will be paint and masking materials rubbing down discs ,all that stuff that said thats for nice paint like glasurit (which new bmws are painted in ) or ICI paint not that mickey mouse junk people tart up used cars on forcourts with. The remaining 200 allow for a little profit or covers any additional dings work that might be missed on the first guesstimate of the job! The industry standard for a normal new car repaint is 80hrs which works out at 3 grand for a new car with very minor damage. So that 1800 to two grand is a real touch really.Expect a nice job for that money a grand gets it sprayed one colour with cheap paint normally by a painter called Biffo or Toppo wearing larger than normal shoes ,red nose, and strangely enough his work shop is normally a marquee rather than built of bricks .You know the rest I think! simon.
