RFChris Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Picked up my 3.0S yesterday, and i have to admit, she's a monster!Beraing in mind that she has been laid up in a bard for the past 5 years she runs brilliantly. The only niggle i can find is the loose visvous fan which keeps making an odd noise, but other that that she's mint.By christ, she goes like a train.Just off to Exeter now for it's first big run in 5 years!See the pics later!! Also, i'd just like to say a huge thanks to Spooner for all his hard work and of course, Capriaddict for selling me the bugger in the first place!Chris (the happiest OSF owner on here right now) :D:D:D:D
antz Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 woooo! let hope this ones a keeper chris!
RFChris Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 See you in a coupla hours mate [/url]
RFChris Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 Here's a pic to prove i made it! Chris
Doc Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Thats spot on chris .............. Needs a hard slam
RFChris Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 *clunk* It's now stopped clunking as it has evolved into a constant grinding noise. Yay!
john_3.0s Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 glad u like mate, those 3.0s are still pretty nippy by todays standards. The viscous fan couplings make a funny sweaking / sqwarking noise when they get warm normally as you change gear when the revs drop quickly (can often be mis-diagnosed as a dodgy box) if the bearings are dead, give it a wobble and you will soon see if it is dead. best thing is to get a kenlow on there mate as i dont think you can fix the couplings

So, am i right in saying that it's just going to keep making that noise or will the bearing cease and lock the fan? Ie, it spins as fast as the engine.
john_3.0s Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 not sure mate, never lasted long enough to find out. TBH i took the fan off my 3,0s and it was fine for a good year or so until i took it off the road
danny69 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 As John says ditch the viscous one, they are just noisy and sap power. A cheap option is to fit one from an Escort RS Turbo, they are up to the job and that is what I plan to use on mine. Only about a tenner too on e-bay. Good to see you out enjoying your car BTW.
capriaddict Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 It was good to see the old girl out again Did you make it back to kent ok ?? With everything you said that you've got planed for the engine you might aswell ditch the viscous fan as has been suggested but because of the future upgrade i'd get a kenlowe or pacet electric fan fitted. I'm sure with your contacts you'll sort something good for it
MR "S" Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 NICE TO SEE,GLAD I MADE IT UP TO EXETER - THANKS TO SABBY FOR GIVING ME A LIFT & DROPPING ME HOME.
