capriaddict Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Here's a little view that wasn't on my website. It was the start if an X-Pack version with flared arches. Dave Ooof! just made a mess
Admin Vista Posted March 27, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted March 27, 2008 Ok so general consensus of opinion is that the potential new capri doesn't get the seal of approval. Hairy muff Whilst I like those CGI capris of Daves, they strike me more as what Ford could (and should!!) have made of the mk3 capri back in 1986 when they dropped it, than what a capri could look like now. I refer you back to my MGRV8 comparison, that car was a lazy attempt by Austin Rover (or were they just Rover by then?) at making the MGB look modern. Now whilst they are very cool there's a little too much of the old capri left in Daves images. Dave, what can you create from a blank canvas using more subtle styling hints and shapes from the old car to keep it looking really retro, but still looking like a completely new design?
Rick Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 not too bad i spose but still not worthy of the capri name (thats the ford one not yours)

I dont see what you are saying?? the CGI images look instantly like a capri, where as the shit that for have done looks nothing like one. Daves capri looks how it should be made. Like the new 'stang, looks like the old car but when you see them together they look nothing like each other. In my opinion Daves images look pretty much spot on. one thing nobodys mentioned is the new capri will be front wheel drive,if they make it,god lets hope they dont!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's my point, the new Mustang resembles the old Mustang without looking like a modern version of the same car. I agree that Daves car is goodlooking but feel it's what should have been built to succeed the mark 3 back in 1987. It does however look to me like a modern version of the same car rather than a new modern take on the capri that looks retro (like the Mini and Mustang)
Dave_3d Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 It does however look to me like a modern version of the same car rather than a new modern take on the capri that looks retro (like the Mini and Mustang) That's primarily down to the fact that was exactly what I set out to do. A retro interpretation rather than a modern design with a Capri badge. A clean sheet interpretation would create an all new design with a few little capri signatures, but otherwise follow modern design language - more pronounced creases/Sweeps which were not possible previously, cab forward, high sides, bonnet & boot, complex jewelry (light units etc.), crash/safety regulations, hatch, FWD etc. They are two distinct cars: Either a retro take (Think Mini, Mustang, S-Type) or an all new design (Think Jaguar XF). I just don't have enough hours in the day to try and create an all new design. It is "quite tricky". Dave
mk1super Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Instead of making garbage like that ford ought to take a look at the cars they used to make, and get back to the drawing board as that thing is ugly as sin! They say the future is progress erm where?
mrmoo Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 ill tripple it and any car with a capri badge HAS to be rear wheel drive
OLD SKOOL DUDE Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I like the car, i can see hints of capri in it but TBH if i hadn't been told or saw the capri picture below i would have said "is that the new puma" Not a capri in my mind, needs more capri in the mix less corperate front end, remember how that coperate front end killed the granada sorry to hijack the link and this is childish as hell of me , but if you click on the link in bortafs message theres a doris at the top of the screen and she says what you type , i just got her to say " kick my back doors in " im such a gimp but it amused me , on the subject of the new capri , has anyone surgested using the MAZDA RX8 platform as its rwd and would save development costs
Lardy Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I remember when there was a jaguar concept that used the rx8 platform and in the article they mentioned that ford might use the same platform for a coupe focus which they said might be named the focus capri that was last year sometime ..got me excited though as said before rear wheel drive ,very practical ...NICE!
