Last year I noticed a bit of banging when driving to work on the M62. Got there, looked under the bonnet and noticed that all the bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine had worked their way loose. I had to go to B&Q to buy 17mm and 13mm spanners!

My starter motor is the one that keeps working its way loose though...

bloody hell you spend all that money on your car and fail to shell out for a tub of split washers and nylon threaded nuts :P

seriously though does stuff come loose so easily, the last thing you want is your roll bar coming loose at 70mph

Well i've tried split/spring washers , lock tight , nyloc nuts and they're all shite !!!!!!! . The nyloc nuts are the worst , foooooking useless things as they go lose after 2 hrs !!!!!!! .

try brushing on a bit of salt water and let them rust, we all know how hard it is to get a rusted nut off

mr gaz with his comfy road car thats afraid to drive in the wet :gayfight:

just joking gaz.

its a bugger when things come loose  nearly as bad when thigns wont undo

nylocs are affected by the heat, and so are not very good for hot engine bay applications (waits for the flaming). Simmonds nuts are better, the ones that have a split at the top which applies the friction to prevent the nut coming loose.

And I don't believe for one minute that Gaz will buy plastic!

I dont understand why they keep coming loose, mine dont :?
Fierce hard reving engines loosen all the bolts holding everything on for some reason . Most fast atmo engines will shake the bolts out of bits + bobs if you unleash them on a regular basis and mines rinsed everywhere !!!!!!!! . I'll have to bolt check the engine bay everytime i've been out for a drive and then strip it down this winter and wire lock every nut/bolt in place i think . Either that or stop reving it to 9000 rpm on the bypass . On second thoughts foooook that idea as it sounds so good , baaaaaaarrrrp , baaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrp , baaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrp !!!!!!!!

Gaz .. i dunno .. i see quite a few high reving engines ..you know 7-9k for 15-30 minutes a time and they stay together ..

Are you torquing them up or just leaning on them with a 12" long spanner on an M8 nut/bolt?

are they 8.8 or higher ?

Did Chris mention a vibration while on the rollers ?

Honest mate they shouldnt be coming undone .. you ever heard of a Honda VTEC engine loosening bolts ??? even with 100k miles on it (ok it may have blown up at 99k :D )

That Cosworth Duratec that did the load test .. 97 hours screaming its tits off in a dyno ..it didnt come undone ..

No vibrations since the props been re-balanced . I also have a comfy standard x-member and engine mounts so the engine isn't mounted solid or anything . I have all new bolts , nuts , lock tight , nylocs , washers etc and it's all built and assembled with care . Most of the bits that have worked loose where probably down to the propshaft over the last 500 miles or so but the alternator bolts work loose everytime i drive it . I've just painted the threads with tipex , lock tighted the nyloc nuts and i'm now going out testing in a minute to see if they fall out !!!!!!!!
