Cheers. MOT is booked for saturday morning & I'm gonna try to make it to the retro-rides gathering on Sunday if it passes.

last night I cleaned up the rear spax & wound down the settings as they were far too stiff before, then I trimmed the wings so the doors opened & closed properly. I'll remove the doors & bonnet & fill & sand where the wings join the front panel & A pillars tonight... just gotta refit the shocks & fit the headlights then & it's done, whoo!

Well I refitted the shocks on the softest setting, bounced the car & heard a loud bang..... the shocks are too long & are fully compressed before the rear springs  that's why they were on the hardest setting, to stop 'em reaching full travel!! Whipped 'em out & went & bought some NOS shocks of a mate! Couldn't get the engine running either  It's been nothing but progress since I got it back but last night really didn't go too well!!

get on whyte boy! its almost a year to the day since we attempted the stratford meet... and never made it! Will stu make the retro rides gathering or not.. who knows! :D

Cheers Rich, its all running so just have to cross my fingers for the MOT

I was thinking about that time we tried to get to stratford... I must hold the record for the most break downs per mile travelled

are you sure stu - I may come a close second !!

I had a fuel blockage or something, it would idle fine but only drive about 200m before cutting out  then I'd have to wait about 20 mins before it would start again.... It took 2 days to drive it about 30 miles :oops:

Last night I got the new dampers in after struggling like a b*****d with the rubber bushes, fired it up & took it for a quick drive

All working fine, just gotta do a bit more fibreglass stuff to the wings(eurgh) get the bonnet back on, fit the headlights, get the horn working and then then slap some filler & paint on the new sills

Mot is first thing tomorrow morning & I have to go out tonight  taken the afternoon off work so I'm gonna be a busy boy.

Play in the steering box, springs not sitting in the cups, brake lights (don't know how I didn't spot that  ) a sidelight out, & some loose brake pipes.

Not too bad, there were a few other things but I've sorted them today

It passed

All legal... well apart from the tax which is in the post but not valid till september  it's exempt anyway so I may risk driving it....

Cheers

Took it out for the day yesterday. All went well apart from when I stalled at a junction & when I tried to start it again heard a horrible screeching noise  I think I've sheared some teeth off the starter! I'll pinch the one from the crossflow in my 'tina though.

Also felt very sick which I think is down to exhaust fumes... must be a leak in the manifold! It doesn't seem to be blowing though?! I need to change the gasket anyway as the back carb isn't sealed properly, so I'll whip it all off & have a look.

Yeah that's what I'm doing... steve offered me a space in his workshop to lift the engine out & it was very tempting... dry, electricity etc :D...

.... but I've decided to do it on my drive in the cold, wet & dark

Martin has a flywheel for me so box out tonight fingers crossed (or is that crushed  ) and back in by the weekend

I will go to the ball!

Cheers Savvi

I started at 4:30 & the gearbox was off by 8:30!

It took a while & there were a few (many) complications but it's off now!

I have a 4 bolt crank so Martins flywheel is no good, I'll get on it tomorrow & see if I can get one by the weekend

Stu i've got a old 4bolt fly wheel of 997 engine bit worn but in somerset and you are welcome to it

Steve

Cheers for the offer mate, very kind but I have found one & it's on it's way already

Fitted my new Anglia flywheel tonight. My old was was half the weight & also a lot thinner:

I think that's why it started slipping, cos the starter motor must have only just been engaging at full travel.

I though about just swapping the ringgear over & keeping the lightened one but I think I'll fit the thicker one to be sure the starter is working properly.
