CPJ105E Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 what time will we be finishing at at a guess??
RUSTYPUP Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I put my engine in today and all is not well. Funny noise from clutch area and oil leak tastic. Still hoping to make it, but as I said to Chris, I'm only coming seeing as there were no other XEs down. As has been previously said I have been in hiding with all the other XEs.
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Keep at it rustypup as you are one of the rare oldskoolfords who doesn't mind being tested on the Brunters concrete surface (not grippy like a drag strip startline) . Most so-called fast motors avoid it like the plague and go on about their drag strip times instead
RUSTYPUP Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Mines not particularly fast. Only 160 bhp when last on the rollers and more of a daily driven saloon car than a race car. Ran 15 at Avon Park with last engine. New engine is same spec but without all the bent valves.
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 At least your giving it a go at Brunters , it doesn't matter how fast you go it's the taking part that counts .
kevmk2 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 what time will we be finishing at at a guess?? Last time i went, we finished around 4pm, then got a nice long journey down the M1 and sit in the traffic in the average speed part
CPJ105E Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 im going to plan a cross country way back and try and aviod the rush hour traffic maybe down the a5
Toby Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 ok cheers Retroford . Can you do an updated list of who and what's coming then please so i know what cars + trailers to toot at on the way up !!!!!!!!!! .......... You could toot at me Gaz, but you'll be in front of me I recon - I'm not a morning person!! I will be on my street tyres on the trailer though. Chris - Pm sent
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I'll be leaving at 3... I've got a wedding reception to go to in the evening.
Toby Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I'll be leaving at 3... I've got a wedding reception to go to in the evening. I should be there by then!! Doesn't she mind you're missing the day!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 im going to plan a cross country way back and try and aviod the rush hour traffic maybe down the a5Yes the A5 is a much nicer route , i'm blasting that way myself so keep em peeled for a blue mk1 escort tearing up the countryside
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 I will be on my street tyres on the trailer though. Gayboy race car trailer queen , buy some ear plugs and drive it up at 45 mph
kevmk2 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Ive come back down the A14, M11. Lots of speed camera's though, and a much slower route. Yes Toby, get it out on the road
Toby Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 You 16 valve boys are cheating!! You bung a pre-crossflow in yours and drive it in guaranteed traffic. - Not fair on the cam lobes. It's a road car but only after 11.00 at night!! And I'm not sure it will go as fast as 45mph!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 We love yer Toby . Have you got the new head on the cortina yet then mate ?
spitbarnatt Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Chris, Did I manage to sneak into an empty space on this?
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Chris, Did I manage to sneak into an empty space on this? Let's hope so
Toby Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Have you got the new head on the cortina yet then mate ? No mate not yet, it's on it's way but the thrash has got in the way of progress a bit. I have put my home made gear box in tonight and a poxy low diff to give me some chance against your "modern" machinery. Oh and super glued my engine mount as I don't have a spare and wont get one in time and it was nearly severed through!! Still got to re-fit the carbs and exhaust manifold as it's now welded from when it fell appart months ago. Progress, but would have been better bolting it onto the new head.
Toby Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 How slippery is this place?? Anyone got any experience?
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 How slippery is this place?? Anyone got any experience? I've been there a few times with various machines over the years and it's just like a road surface . Best described as concrete slabs full of flint . Forget full throttle hard launches cos you won't move
kevmk2 Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 Very true Gaz, i think i mastered it on one launch last time, sort of feathered it in first gear then quick gear change at low revs into 2nd and then floored it
Toby Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Bit like North Weald then? Or worse? What are your times like there Kev in comparrison to other places, I know Puddy ran just outside the 13's there and then a 12 at pod, and Andy Harris ran mid 12's compared to mid 11's against a Lambo in Fast Car Mag last year. I think that was at Bruntingthorpe.
kevmk2 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Bit like north weald Toby, i run a 12.08 @ 118mph up there last time. And Terry run a 11.25 @ 123mph. So everyone was down on their personal bests. Plus there was another shoot out going on the same day as us, we had perfomance BMW mag there with M3's with superchargers, new M5's and a few other cars, and we had to use their timing equpment, and most of us were quicker than all of their cars

Bet the beemer owners were made up seeing all the old cars being faster
Toby Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 So say good bye to at least a second then!! Should be a laugh whatever happens. - Unless something goes ping or pop!
