5hane Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 ok, hears my problem. i have saved up some money to spend on my escort, but im ot sure what to do. i have two choices: 1. i have been ofered a 1700 xflow 711 block for £300 (penuts. also he will keep it till i can buy it for me) but, the head has a hair line crack in between pistons 2,3. the head is a complete work of art, its way to good to throw away ( it was port and polished buy some X f1 company, its very shiny ) aparently the head could be saved. it will cost me £200 to get the head repared and skimed, then i need to buy bike cabs and a manifold (manifold £140 , bike carbs £ still to find out) then i would need a new cam. also the block hasnt got any pistons ( ) so i would need to buy new pistons ( maby £150 ). that will all cost £ 790 + bike carbs and cam. 2. the sunroof in the car is mahosive, i really want rid of it. ive got one quote of £150 to remove the sunroof, and £700 to get the car painted. i really dont want the whole shell painted as i could take it to shows as it is, but being silver it cant be blended. (i also have some one else who's gona quote me.) then i need new harrer stripes think there £80 that will cost £ 930 (ill be broke at this point.) help
mk1super Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Sort body first as even when engine goes pop bodywork will be solid!
surfingturnip Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 if you're still young as I am go for bodywork, better to get it looking alright and actually being able to drive it than going out and fitting a mahoosive engine and getting raped by the insurence companies
Mr Sam Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 as long as the body is solid go with the engine
5hane Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 if you're still young as I am go for bodywork, better to get it looking alright and actually being able to drive it than going out and fitting a mahoosive engine and getting raped by the insurence companies was thinking that, and build up the engin for when im 21 or summing o and im 15 so yh i have plenty of time to save up
Burns Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 yeah, get the body sorted so it's not going to disintigrate, then take your time with the engine
tazrocks88 Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 if you're still young as I am go for bodywork, better to get it looking alright and actually being able to drive it than going out and fitting a mahoosive engine and getting raped by the insurence companies that is what i vote i am doin the same if you were older i might say engine if its a solid car but as a young person u are better with a good lookin car u can insure
antz Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 dude get the bodywork done...you dont need to go fast to look good

Admin Vista Posted May 14, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 14, 2008 What about repairing the sunroof and having a vinyl roof fitted? Then you won't have to repaint the whole car. Vinyl roofs are very 70's and are great for hiding imperfections in a repaired roof. I'm a little out of the loop on X-flow engine prices, but £300 sounds a lot to me for an engine with a knackered head, no pistons & needing a new cam.

louie bagel Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 do the body dude f you've got the money, then get a untouched 1600 and have it built yourself your 15 so you've got plenty of time to build one so then you'll have the added satisfaction of knowing you built its power , whats the point in buying an engine that you can only rev in your drive you might as well buy a lawn mower at least you can polish your car like a propper bufty
5hane Posted May 14, 2008 Author Report Posted May 14, 2008 i get ur point. i think i will go for body work, then i can save up and build the 1700 up properly buying all the right bits my dad also keeps telling me how much the insurance will be, and i really dont want to bend it round a tree.
bullittcraig Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Got to sort bodywork first. Engine can be done over time as no good putting in a quick engine if the bodywork needs sorting.
5hane Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 heres the crack in the head. (ive highlighted the crack with black)
Gonzo Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 as long as the body is solid go with the engine I agree with this man! GET THE MOTA!!! I just think there's something amazingly alluring about naff-looking cars that go ridiculously quickly. Like the ratted mk3 'tina with the cossie. ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and you want Keihin FCR41 flatslides with the accelerator pump. Like these:
5hane Posted May 15, 2008 Author Report Posted May 15, 2008 they look awsome !! iom, there better than webers ! i gta get me some
pccapri Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 i would say engine normally, however insurance is rediculous at the moment, my brother has a 1.2 corsa, (i know chavvy, not caught the bug yet, but im working on it). and is going to be paying more than 1500 quid a year. twice what he paid for it. so i would go for the body work.
Gonzo Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 they look awsome !! iom, there better than webers ! i gta get me some You'd be hard pushed to find a better set of carbs than FCR's. Turn anything they're bolted to into fire-breathing monsters!
5hane Posted May 16, 2008 Author Report Posted May 16, 2008 they look awsome !! iom, there better than webers ! i gta get me some You'd be hard pushed to find a better set of carbs than FCR's.
