Rick Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 whats the top speeds in your cars and what setup you running. gave mine a bit of a test (didnt push too hard im not trusting enough yet) had it at about 80mph at 2000-2500 rpm could have gone much quicker i reckon but i dont trust everything just yet and the engines still lacking a little oomph thats with 1660 xflow 3.77 diff 4 speed box
PIG Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 ive had 172 on a sat nav think so how true it is i dont know.fookin quick tho.wont do it now tho.
V8ian Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I would guess about 160+ going on what speeds I have done before,
Chris! Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 my mk5 cortina will do 103 on sat nav...down hill
Mr.Sumo Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 91 ( on the clock ) flat out on the A3 coming back from Wheels Day . Bog standard 1300 . Get in there
johnny_h Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 whats the top speeds in your cars and what setup you running. gave mine a bit of a test (didnt push too hard im not trusting enough yet) had it at about 80mph at 2000-2500 rpm could have gone much quicker i reckon but i dont trust everything just yet and the engines still lacking a little oomph thats with 1660 xflow 3.77 diff 4 speed box I doubt you were doing 80 at 2000 revs. That's the exact same spec as mine and it is getting close to screaming at 80.
Rick Posted May 18, 2008 Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 why would i lie seriously. me dad was trying to keep up with me in his vtr saxo lol not unless the tacho is undereading somehow maybe its cause your wheels are half the rolling diameter of mine
johnny_h Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Weere you going down a massive steep hill? Most modern 5 speeds wont do 80 at 2000 revs.
johnny_h Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 maybe its cause your wheels are half the rolling diameter of mine this would make a difference...
Stu_B Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 my 1.4 daily, 5 speed on 17's does about 4000rpm at 80! Done about a ton im my mk3, that was scary & about 70 in the Anglia, that is also scary... for my life & my bank balance (you can watch the petrol guage drop )
Fiesta Steve Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 My bog standard 1300 will do a speedo indicated 105 at a guess, the clock only goes to 100 and it goes just past that. It does 100mph at 6000 rpm.
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Depends on gearing and how step the hill is !!!!!!!!
Rick Posted May 18, 2008 Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 motorway. il have to get pics maybe my tacho isnt right, was hardly screaming though
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Yes standard rev counters are poo mate , mine used to say 7000revs at 5000 so the opposite of your one . i would imagine with a 4 speed and a 3.7 diff you would be at about 4500 revs at 80mph . Do a gear calc program and it will give you a good idea of expected speeds
mk1rob Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I tried my top speed this mornin. Got 110 on the clock at about 6000rpm. Didnt want to push much harder as theres no rev limiter. I got a 2L pinto with single twin choke carb, stainless exhaust and 5 speed box.
Onyx Dave Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 My old Mk1 Mex rep did about 155mph, 16v hot rod xe, 5 speed, 3:5 diff. Then changed to a 3:7 diff as more fun!!!
toad650 Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 had about 150mph on the clock of my cappa was right behind a RX8 once and a prelude another time on a track corse. Thats running a 2.9efi with a 5speed box a 3.1 diff and 15" wheels but we all know what speedos are like...... Got a 2ltr diff in now think thats a 3.44 ratio so top speed will of dropped.
Fiesta Steve Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 105mph flat out in 4th at 6000rpm About the same as mine Antz Will do it on a flat too, not downhill. I might get the shatnav out to see how accurate my speedo is.
antz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 105mph flat out in 4th at 6000rpm About the same as mine Antz Will do it on a flat too, not downhill. I might get the shatnav out to see how accurate my speedo is. you know what i meant id like to know what it actually does....i know the original tcho is out because ive also got a TIM one plumbed in and its a few rpm out when going top speed.
Noodles Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I aint gonna say coz I was goin down hill and no one will belive me
spitbarnatt Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Download the quaife gear speed calculator from their website - for free Mine should do 122 or 127 with the five speed in (depending on which ratio the 5th gear is) at 8500 revs - 4.4 diff. I'll be sorting it out next week so I'll let you know.
