Retro-gone. Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 heres my old MK1 circa 1979, proper 70's metalflake paint job, sold it to a lad in Doncaster in early 80's, it was pretty 'ripe' then so cant see it been around now
Admin Vista Posted May 26, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 26, 2008 Funny how fashion changes, I remember that look being all the rage back then but doubt many people would do it to one now.
Retro-gone. Posted May 26, 2008 Author Report Posted May 26, 2008 oh i dunno, id be proud to ride round in it nowadays, but i guess thats cos im stuck in the past, wonder what the young hot hatch lads would make of it , probably p!ss themselves lol.
Admin Vista Posted May 26, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 26, 2008 Aren't they doing exactly the same to their cars now though? stick on spoilers and exhausts, enormous air dams etc etc
Retro-gone. Posted May 26, 2008 Author Report Posted May 26, 2008 yeah its just the cars that have changed i guess, i stopped and had a chat with the bridcruise lads, they loved the capri and couldnt get over the interior!, they did think it was a yank car tho tell ya what tho, they dont know how lucky they are driving round in expensive cars, now when i were a lad it was all vauxhall vivas with brushpaint jobs lol.
Admin Vista Posted May 26, 2008 Admin Report Posted May 26, 2008 Ditto, my first car was a seriously rusty mk1 escort I bought for £45. Try walking into a bank / dealership and asking for credit back then!
Retro-gone. Posted May 26, 2008 Author Report Posted May 26, 2008 too true matey, try tellin that to the young uns today, although its good to see some young lads prefer classic fords to modern day cars,
DAZZA Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Yep, my son is 16...... his latest wish list is a Mk 2 Ghia, or Ford powered Starlet. Bad news for my bank account, however the good news is he has converted some of his mates..... good to see the next generation embracing the scene.
bmxdave Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Youd be surprised how many younguns are into the older stuff. They have an interest but once they properly come into contact with one thats it, they have to get one. Ive converted 3 of my friends over the last few months onto mk3 capris, from a mk3 golf, an astra and a new punto. As soon as i took them out in the pop they started looking and settled on cappers! And whenever i go to boyracer meets i get some attention purely on curiosity factor.
surfingturnip Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 too true matey, try tellin that to the young uns today, although its good to see some young lads prefer classic fords to modern day cars, OSF FTW!

totus Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Hi, just joined and love the site & this thread My first car was a Mk 1 Cortina 1200cc that I bought for 15 Quid and spent hrs welding etc, my sons first car only a couple years back was a 2001 Corsa SXI. (you are right how things change) He has got the bug for older cars now, I think its the tax exempt bit and now has a Spitfire project (sorry) his mates come round our place all the time and they are getting the older car bug to, one arrived in a Capri the other day. As for laughing at our old cars modded up, I laugh at all his mates with the plastic body kits etc Brian
