cortinaman Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 From Retro Rides Forum, but well worth knowing about...... a mate of mine nearly lost a car off his drive today. his missus came home to find a hyab on the pavement, preparing to hoist his mercedes 280 away!. they were we belive polish. and a lot of shouting was involved before they drove off. the police came and the plate on the truck is a fake. form what she said we belive it to be a ford type hyab. with a blue cab with a red stripe/band at the centre line. Wessie Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 dudes me and my mate were discussing security upgrades and this very scenario came up .and our only way of defending against it wasPUT A PIN OUT HAND GRANADE UNDER THE EFFIN WHEEL!!!! but seriously aint nothin you can do against that sink a post or similar item ino the drive/bolted to house etc then run a chain around the rear axle and lock it to the post they might cu it off but it'll take them longer to nick the vehicle meaning theres less chance of them getting away un noticed
MkII-Rhod Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 That sucks...looks like thefts are pretty common up your way. Although my mate has put his capri that he's rebuilding chained to steel poles cemented in the ground. The price of capri's have skyrocketed in aus. So it's probably the best idea.

MattD_Capri Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 Heard of similar storys one guy had a sierra cossie, one day he came home to find nothing but some skid marks where they had dragged it on to the back of the recovery truck and driven off.
stevepeanut Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I heard of the gypsies buying an old ex AA recovery truck a going to a car show and helping themselves to whatever they fancied. Another scam going back up north near my mams was this. A recovery truck would pull up at the shops, hook up an expensive merc or beemer. The alarm starts going off, a guy in a posh suit comes out and shouts at the recovery driver "this is the second time my new alarm system has failed and you've had to tow it back, you better bloody sort it " etc etc. Anybody nearby thinks some business man is having car problems.... scarey stuff dont you think?
d2000ad Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 My mates fireblade got stolen thursday afternoon in broad daylight. His neighbour watched the whole thing. Two lads pull up in an audi one is wearing helmet, leathers the whole lot. The other one opens the boot of the audi and takes out a con saw cuts both locks off and drives away. The other one climbs on bike screwdriver in to the ignition and then just drives away. Took approx 3 mins. Car came back as stolen once the cops eventually showed up. He is absolutely gutted.
