Check your nuts

everybody check your nuts. also check your wheel nuts.

 

yesterday on my way back from Retro show, i had just got on the M1 and started passing a wagon when there was a huge vibration coming through the car, all round so i had to pull onto the hard shoulder. checked the wheel nuts and they had just started to losen . luckily i caught it early enough for nothing to really happen but it was a bit hairy when i think about it

once happened to a mini i had, thought id got a puncture so i pulled into the hard shoulder to find 2 of the nuts had snapped off and the wheel was on well wonky. good time to phone mr. AA man.

all 16 had decided to undo a tiny bit a quick tighten and check over then i stopped at the next services to retighten again just to make sure

Now this is going back quite a few years now, but this story is still proper old skool.

 

When I was a very young lad, my aunt had a Mk3 Cortina in (in my oppinion the best colour) Purple Velvet. She set off for work one morning and half way down the massive hill we live on, she heard banging and clicking noises. She pulled over and had a quick look around the car. Every wheel nut barring the lockers had been stolen.

 

Now you may think that the thieves in the dead of night wanted the wheels, but the first wheel you tried to undo, you would realise it had a locker on it. No, it wasn't the wheels they wanted, the reason behind the missing nuts became apparent when she had to get new ones. They were chrome plated and fooking expensive.

 

BTW, you haven't fitted alloy wheels using normal steel wheel wheel nuts have you? I have never heard of all 16 nuts being loose... well unless someone has tried to rob your rims

bits falling off and coming loose is somet im getting used to: iv been on the road 8 weeks or so: the starter and all 3 bolts fell off, the alternator bolts vanished, manifold studs 7/8 had come undone battery tray mounts had wobbled loose....

 

you just gotta pack a few spare spanners and nuts and youl be fine

Just fitted em ? on alloys you need to retighten the nuts after a few miles

they have just been fitted a couple of weeks back and i had retightened them after a few long trips, they are the correct nuts, will just have to check them a bit more regular. was a bit hairy when the car juddered at over 70

 

im used to slumming it with the medway monkeys now Sarah, i will have to get one of your stickers but alter it abit
