Personally whilst his crimes are inexcusable and I believe his incarceration both here in the late 90's and in Vietnam should have been much longer, there's a part of me that feels sorry for him. I mean he's served the punishment that was given to him by the courts but where's he supposed to go now? If it was as simple as coming back here and signing the sex offenders register and dissappearing into anonymity while being monitored / watched by the local police (or whoever it is that does that task) then I'm sure he'd have done it. But let's face it, what's really going to happen in the UK (which of course is where he is most recognisable) is he's going to be hounded by tabloid newspaper journalists and the public in general every time he shows his face. Now a lot of you might think he deserves that and admittedly I have mixed thoughts about it myself. But unless we're returning to the dark ages of execution by lynch mob then he has to live somewhere and just because he is famous and widely recognised doesn't mean he deserves to be punished anymore than anyone else who has committed the same crimes does it? While we're on the subject, Jonathon King committed similar crimes, and was convicted and served his time in this country. He has subsequently been released and dissapeared back into society, why have the tabloids apparently forgotten about him while continueing to trumpet Gary Glitters crimes to the world? So, what do we do with him?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that you're trying to have a balanced view on this situation- but the crime he (and yes many other men and women!) have committed is extremely sick and has to be treated differently to that of someone who stole some clothing from a store for example or something. (Argh, I know what I mean-just hope it makes sense to you guys and gals) And to conclude my arguement...BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!

A reasoned argument, good stuff Yes it's a filthy crime and it wasn't my intention to imply that I didn't feel he deserved to be punished. I just don't think he deserves to be punished anymore than anyone else that is guilty of the same crime. I use Jonathan King as my example, he was just as bad and no-one batted an eyelid when he was released half way through his sentence. Much as we'd like to, we can't lynch him, hang him, drown him, or anything else and like it or not he has to get on with his life. I don't want to read about him in the papers everyday from now to eternity do you? It strikes me that perhaps the best way to continue to punish fallen celebrities is to cut off all the money they get from royalties (he still makes money from that) and then divert it to a charity for victims of those crimes. Then save for the monitoring organisations, ignore them completely in every sense.

I can't feel sorry for anyone like Glitter & the world will be a better place without them. Of course there will be groups of people who will say that it isn't their fault, they must have something wrong with them to make them commit these crimes... perhaps a bad childhood blah blah. This is just a big excuse in my eyes and these people obviously have no kids of their own. I am not saying I will be stalking him to give him a good hiding, but you have to expect that sort of behaviour... lets face it, he didn't think about the mental scars he gave those children when he did what he did.

No, these people will never change, theres something wrong with them and this makes them who they are. Kind of being born with a weird, sick illness. Its already been said capital punishment should be brought back, would act as a fantastic deterant for this so called "knife crazed" Britain aswell.
